What is the use of em??

If you get 1 million of them you can do a feat respec.

So your at 940/1,000,000.. Long way to go. And they only stack to 1000, so you need 1000 slots.. Or some hours at the stone of change.

IE - You delete them imediately because Turbine screwed up the crafting system so its far too annoying to bother. If you did need a feat respec, you get 1 free anyways.. Otherwise it's much easier to buy the appropriate shard off the auction house. There also available on the ddo store.

Similarly you need roughly 1 million khyber shards to get a normal casting supply of components for trap the soul.

However the khyber shards have an alternate more practical use - you can use them to bind your equipment - which prevents it from every taking permanent damage. It costs only 10-400 shards per item (formulat is item min lvl squared), so you can generally find enough to bind all your gear relatively quickly.

You crunch them up in stacks of 1000 to make larger versions.

1000 Fragments = 10* Flawed
10 Flawed = 1 Imperfect
10 Imperfect = 1 Siberys
10 Siberys = 1 Exceptional
10 Exceptional = 1 Flawless

Along with plat they are used for feat exchanges, As you get higher in levels you use bigger ones (and more plat).

Siberys was answered - note that you get one free respec pe character by seeing Lockania in the market

Khyber are used to bind & attune gear - at a cost of (min level)^2 shards - so:
4 for a min level 2 item,
9 for min level 3, and
400 for a min lvl 20 item - or one with no minimum level.

Items which yu want to perform eldritch alchemical rituals on must first be bound & attuned, which also makes the item bound to character but prevents it taking permanent durability damage.

The only crafting you make with Siberys shards is crunching stacks at the Stone of change.

The Khyber Dragonshards are used to bind and attune items and weapons to you to enable alchemical crafting.

Binding takes the lvl of your item, squared, for the required number of Khyber Dragonshards to bind/attune (lvl 12 item = 144 Khybers)

Sell the stacks of 1000 on the AH for 1500 plat. They will sell every time and you will have the money to buy a shard if you ever need one.

Alternatively, give the khyber shards to a caster friend that uses the trap the soul spell. They will love you.

Otherwise, stack to 1000 and sell on the AH. Bid price is 1,000 and the buyout price is 1,500.

finally found a thread that had the answers, however, i just tried to bind a +1 weapon that did not have a min lvl req. nothing happened, what gives? How many kyber shards do I need?

Items with no minimum level require 400 shards to bind. Otherwise it's (ML^2) shards to bind.

you only need some of them I go to the crushing this every so often and inow i have about 4 flawed dragon shards and i can use them to switch my feats any time...with of course the payment of some gold hehe
