After nine days and many e-mails and finally a scam alert, I have received what I paid for. Nothing further to see here.

This is why you pay with a credit card and call them tell them the site is fraud and refused delivery of a working product. You will get a refund and most likely the next person who tries to buy from them with your CC company will find the card wont let them.

I used a credit card. I'll be going through paypal first but if they pull the "We don't get involved with virtual goods" routine, I'll just call my company and get the charge refunded.

Not anymore. Since they give the client away for free, there's no reason to sell the game any longer. I would have just called Turbine and paid for the one month of VIP for my friend but it was after business hours, and I also didn't want to spend an hour on the phone.
It's worth noting that the company I went through for the second cd key gave me a legitimate key quickly. No hassle.

Well ... if this had been for my account, then I could have done that. This was for a friend's account; however, and short of him giving me his login and me trusting him with my credit card on file on his account ... or waiting till the next day I could call support and do it over the phone ... the only way I had to get him going was to get him a cd key.
They just phoned me a few minutes ago to let me know they've decided to believe me and give me a new cd key. I'm currently waiting for it to arrive.

Was the guy who called you from China? Their English seems pretty bad.
