View Full Version : Old Tomes Function on Llama?
Just wondering if anyone else tried to eat an old (no min lvl) tome on lamania? I wanted to test if how much extra skill pts i'd get from an intel tome, so i figured the test server would be the right place to do so. But when i ate it, the animation went, but nothing changed on my character sheet, so i tried eating another one, and the same thing happened, animation, but no diff on the character sheet. this was a guy i just rolled up and was going to get 2nd lvl on, and i hadnt eaten any tomes on it yet. Just wondering if this is a forced min lvl kinda thing, and ill see the result of the tome after 3rd lvl?

You wont see it till you are level 3 with +1 and level 7 for +2.
Thanks for the info, is that new to the upcoming mod? or is in place on the reg servers now?

So for old no ML +2 tomes they don't change your stats until level7?

you get the +1 effect at lvl 3 and then the other point at lvl 7
What about in the normal servers? is that how it's working now? or just on lamania?

just on lamania
If so, this would be a change and a wrong change. The old tomes were grandfathered in and should get the benefits at the point they were eaten.

I agree with you completely.

I guess it's probably good to even the playing field and not have all these old tomes hanging around haunting the devs, but I don't particularly care either way.
More hopefully, I think this mechanic could play VERY well into giving back your tomes when you True Reincarnate. They can figure out what tomes you've eaten, and when you True Reincarnate and things get put in your bank, they can also give back the tomes you have eaten, with no ML, and Bound to Character. Then you can eat them and they'll auto-reapply as you level up. I hope they are planning/considering this.

I agree with you completely.
I disagree completely. It's an advantage which is nigh-unattainable by anyone just entering the game at this point; if the tomes stayed as-is, they'd continue to rise in price as the number of them remaining dwindled. I'm glad Turbine chose to handle it this way.
You've gotten an advance warning of a few days, so if you're going to use them on a toon, you could use them now before the new update goes live. If you were hoarding them to resell, you're out of luck. I can sympathize with you, as I probably would've bought up a few myself given more resources, but looking at the issue from a neutral standpoint I'd say Turbine's made the right move.

I can't be glad they chose to handle it this way at all. There's such a thing as a token economy that they apparently forgot to pay attention to when they took basic psychology. They're decreasing it even more with this change to Tomes. Why? It now decreases the fun people have by working up enough wealth to add a bonus to their toon at a lower level. With all of the items coming in the new update relying on people being nice enough to not click the loot all button and trade em around in chests as if we're at a warded chest in every dungeon, the appeal of random chests in dungeons continues to take a huge nose dive. The only thing we keep getting is more expensive vendor trash which now inflates the amount of plat available, which can lead to inflated auction house and/or trade values for items.
Devs, could you please take a step back and A) give us a response on how you plan to fix an ever dwindling economy, and/or B) rethink your loot strategies and stop binding everything so that we can actually start to get some more items in the mix besides begging people for their 4 boot ingredients, Large scales, and Large Stones. The economy is screwed and you (the devs) aren't doing much to help give us alternatives to fixing it. We've got shroud items yes, but as the amount of plat increases, now everyone and their mother will be able to acquire those off the AH, thus diluting the value of those to as minimal an amount as possible.
As far as the bonuses no one else can achieve? Yeah, people worked for those tomes and had enough to afford em, why do new players HAVE to have the even spade?
The tomes will disappear over time in any case. There aren't that many floating around as it is after all the Favored Soul creations.

Um.. I have been saving them for over a year in many cases, my 15 $ a month during the DDOldrums of last year should pretty much qualify my grandfathered tomes as guaranteed. Its actually the people who already sold their +2 tomes that had an unintended financial gain.

So it's OK to take something away from someone as long as it's something new people are unable to get?
I want my chance to buy Manhattan Island for 20 shiny beads, please. Take it away from the current occupants if you need to - those greedy bastages deserve the shaft. Since I'm a relative newcomer, I have no problem believing this won't happen to me someday.
Dear Devs,
Could you please confirm if this is working as expected or if it is unexpected and will be returned to the original state? This is a fairly large change since the pre-mod 9 tomes were grandfathered in. If you are changing this, please let us know. Thanks you.

In follow up on the request for Devs to clarify...
Will pre-MOD9 (DDO unlimited) +2 tomes still function as ML1 after Module 1 this wed
1. If used/ate after Wed?
2. If used/ate before wed but toon not level 7 by wed?
If B is in fact the way it will act.. then the ability will be increased by 2 after reaching level 7?
Basically trying to figure out if I need to roll a toon(s) tonight or tomorrow and eat tomes so their pre-mod bonus of ML1 is not wasted.. or if it even matters at this point...

I do not recall writing Ann Landers for advice as to how to use my tomes so please don’t offer any. I simply stated my agreement that the grandfathered tomes should be left alone.

I swear, the nerve of that Dretharis guy. Acting like you are supposed to have discussions or something in Lamannia Discussion. What an absurd notion!

Any chance of a dev weighing in on this? Is this a bug, or functioning properly? I don't see it listed either way in the Update 1 release notes.
This could significantly alter people's decision to True Reincarnate (at least it will for me) as the +2 Int tome I've been saving for that purpose on my rogue that can be eaten at level 1 will lose me 6 skill points if it doesn't go into effect until level 7. Not game breaking, but does mean I have to readjust my plan before starting.
Having the facts on this would be helpful.
