I just wanted to say thanks to anyone and everyone that plays a good old fashioned healer Cleric or FvS. I have tried to do it, honestly I have, I’ve even gotten my Cleric up to level 8 over the last year, but I can’t stand it.

I’ve seen a lot of threads on here lately from either people who play Clerics that are getting frustrated or posts from ignorant people blaming Clerics for not being good enough babysitters.

I will tell you right now, I do not know how you do it; putting up with the crying and whining of numerous imbeciles, but I want to let you know that there are plently of us out there that really appreciate what you do.

So here’s to all the healers of DDO. Keeping all of us kicking since Goodblades.

Thank You!

AIN'T THAT THE TRUTH!

To everyone who ever even TRIED to heal my sorry ass: THANK YOU!

And thanks in advance to anyone who does so in the future.

Healers ARE appreciated! Don't let the "imbeciles" (great choice of word there, Likely!) keep you down!!!

As for the idiots out there, I find it most satisfying to just stop healing anyone who complains about my healing :p I mean I'm not complaining about your obviously bad AC, agro managment, and DPS.

ROFL!!! though I will be the first to admit I am thinking it in my head..... stupid build, I bet he only has 150 hp & has Vicious on

I have 2 healing clerics and 1 healing FvS. I really enjoy playing the class most of the time. I have talked to others who really enjoy playing their clerics and alot of us have the same idea about it, it is about SP managment (how to heal), healing prevention (is it more effecient to kick off a greater command here, or just mass heal?) and there is a real challenge in keeping some of these people alive (would that count as stupid management?) Some quests make it really tough on the healers (I still can't run VOD on my cleric without cringing the whole time, even though my guild has it down to cakewalk now), while others don't even need a healer it seems (redwillow comes to mind). But with either some battle cleric spells, or some offensive caster ability you can have something to do in those situations where you just seem to be "just in case".

So if I carry the party stones to the shrine and sit next to them while they rest up, giving them the benefit of my HEAL skill (but not spell), does my FvS count as a healer?

Well put. I actually find playing my cleric to be the most challenging roll. You do feel like you can swing the course of combat. If one cleric falls or isn't paying attention, it can hurt. One barbarian on autoattack or dead...eh, things will still die.

I loove my lil Healbot.. She's not listed in my sig cuz mostly she's for my family and friends while they level up but Faithy really is fun and challenging to play I'm rarely bored when playing her.

That's too bad. You are close to the point where playing a cleric actually becomes enthralling..

I'm going to send out my thanks to people who have repaired me. Arcanes seldom give a passing glance to the doing so unless it is in a raid situation so thank you to the rare arcanes (and repair wand/scroll users) out there that have done so in the past.

Not true slink - they count really well, all the way to the bank to make me money. But this is not a hagglebot thread, it is a healer thread.
:)
just because you can buy 1500 scrolls to use for the same price I buy 15 does not make you a healer!

Had someone try that with me when I was wand-whipping through a quest on elite on my paladin! We went to the final fight to finish the quest and he was still sitting by the (unused) shrine, saying, "Heal me."

You ever take such a person's stone, and drop it off a ledge, in a deep pool or leave it too far away from the shrine for them to run back to? :D

as someone who plays both healers for fleshies and has my wizards built around healing wf I appreciate your thanks. Though I admit my pugging my healer types have been cut off a little it does feel nice to know some players appreciate the care we give to keeping the party alive and defeating the quest/raid.

And to those who dont I just wont heal them :) works out great for me all the time.

As a cleric this thread made me happy. Nice to be appreciated. I was asked to run VoD on my cleric. The guys said be sure to have scrolls. Said he would take care of me after. Well mwe made it but soon as we finished he logged. :( This thread makes me feel a little better. Thanks all.

I play a cleric and a FvS as my mains on Thelanis. Healing groups is so much fun, especially when things get hairy, and you pull some heal magic outta thin air, whippin wands and spells all over the place. It gets so exciting trying not to let a man drop, and then to have everyone like "omg excellent heals dude, that was awesome!" I love playing cleric lol. Plus I am never wanting for groups lol. Name is Morrn on Thelanis, Im only a lvl 8 cleric, but Im always down for healing groups....once that play decent anyways. If you feel the need to always run out of range of your healer, just dont cry to me about it.

As a recent convert to DDO, and an aspiring Cleric (9), I can appreciate the roller coaster rides we take as healing classes in this game. Sometimes it's "great heals, thanks!" and sometimes it's "I died, so you suck." Sometimes you use up a bunch of wands and scrolls you were saving for emergencies, sometimes you get a few kickbacks from the folks you kept alive. I still accept the occasional blind invite just for giggles, but I've quickly learned what to expect from those groups, and why they need to resort to such a thing.

My high point as a healer comes from being added to some people's friends list and being invited to run certain missions to 'gear up' ... I'm sure they noticed my plain jane weapons and eqiupment and felt sorry for me, but it was cool that they wanted to help show the noobie healer where to get some decent bling.

The low point was probably being yelled at by a squishy spellcaster for not healing enough (everyone else in the group agreed were were trying a difficulty level beyond our capability) -- but then he recruited a healbot for backup and STILL died immediately in the first room. I think that was the first time I ever saw the skull come up and felt satisfied instead of feeling like I dropped the ball.

Great idea for a thread. I have to admit, I find the community a lot friendlier and cooler than I expected from a free-to-play game, but I should have remembered how awesome the D&D crowd was from my NWN days.

It was interesting to see it from another point of view. I was on my alt and our cleric was getting blamed for not healing, while people were running all over the place, and not being in line of sight. I sent a tell to the flustered cleric that my main was cleric and appreciated the job they were doing. Also left mana pots in the chests behind for them.

True, but "I don't heal stupidity" is more pithy than "I don't heal the side effects of stupidity." :p

I usually tell people that if they become too much of a mana sponge, their soulstone can ride in my backpack between the bull dung and candles in the ingredients tab. I don't clean that tab very often. It's smelly.

Most clerics are great, most. Since I have rolled a WF I am finding a LOT of......bigotry? Lots of clerics won't even try to heal a WF, or they try to keep one up with divine healing.

I have tried to run clerics, I find them boring.

Also I have had many times where I am on a rogue, or ranger, or pally, and find myself doing more healing than the cleric in the group :D

I tip the good ones, and try to befriend them. And make a note of the bad ones.... mostly to see if they improve the next time I run with them :D

But over all, cleric is a tough job, one I sux at :D And I tip my Minos to the ones that do their best :D

Emphasis mine.

Double or treble that sentiment - I don't mind the battle cleric, they can be bad ass... but I do mind blowing through a few wands to keep the party up and then have people harass me for falling behind on healing when I run the wands dry.

I love clerics and I like playing healing classes in DDO... I am planning on a healing focused Cleric once I unlock the Drow race as something to play as my main character for a while.

I have no problem healing WF. At high levels, half of a 450 pt. heal is still a lot of HPs. It's even better when I crit for 1,000+. Healing Wf is easy.

Sweet Doc! Ogi has a WF cleric on G-land. Ran a Shroud with him a couple weeks ago. Me on my cleric, squishy little drow but she can solo cleric it, was taking a few ppl thru on their virgin run tho so I didn't WANT to solo it. Then, to my delight, Ogi hit my lfm.:D What started out as me worrying about completion with too many new ppl and lack of greensteel turned into a very smooth speed run. Mostly thanks to Ogi.

He is proof that battle clerics and WF clerics can be quite effective AND heal! And there is no doubt in my mind girl that you can do the same. :):D
