View Full Version : Simple Question about Melee'ing Helpless Mobs

I play a crowd control/healing focused bard that's currently level 5. On fights against things that can be held that consist of groups of melee that are non-dangerous and casters that can pack a whallop is to run toward the caster while casting hold person at every possible cooldown until it sticks, then melee'ing it until it dies or I have to hold again. Outside of that I rarely do meaningful melee in full groups as the fighter types usually have everything else dead before I get a swing or two.

For the times that I'm facing only helpless mobs would it make sense to buy a +1 or +2 pick? It seems like the x4 crit multiplier would trump everything else in situations where the mob is helpless.

I used to do that on my wizard when he would solo. Hold monster + dual wielded picks :D

Held monsters get auto-crit, so big multipliers help, as do busting type weapons, or weapons that produce special effects that proc on crits (the mother of these would probably be the Dreamspitter). A +X holy burst/icy burst/whatever burst pick of maiming would do great damage.

You could get a Puncturer, Bone Breaking or Enfeebling weapon (heavy pick would be great). That way even after they save on the Hold they'll be helpless.

My sorcerer carries dual puncturing weapons. Before the last Mod, I could kill most held mobs in a few swings (less than 5 seconds). With the new mod, it now takes much, much longer, since stat damage can no longer outright kill a mob. I may try to pick up dual burst picks to see if it takes less time.
