View Full Version : Embarrassment leads to good combat tactics

So my rogue Sockpuppet had an embarrassing moment--but became a better rogue because of it. I was in a group in Genesis Point. We had just completed a battle and someone said something funny. Sockpuppet laughed so hard he peed a little (not me mind you--but Sockpuppet). He looked down and saw that there was a noticeable wet spot on his DT-robes. Wow, how embarrassing--a fully grown halfling wets his pants.

So he kind of bunched up the robes and tucked them between his legs. But that caused him to walk funny--which would have been very obvious to the group. New tactic needed. He went into sneak mode and stayed far enough ahead of the group so that the wet spot couldn't be seen. That worked, at least for while. It also proved useful in that he could spot upcoming mobs--and they couldn't see him. Wow, a use for sneaking that goes beyond hiding pee spots!

After the party caught up and the fighting started, the problem came back however. Surely both the party and the monsters would see the pee spot and he'd be the joke of the day. Out of desperation and out of sneak mode, he did his best to position himself on the back side of the monsters, with the monsters between him and the melees. And with his back to the casters and clerics. By keeping this position, no one could see the wet spot. Coincidentally, his damage also went up. It seemed like he was getting something called "backstab" damage in this position. Also, he took very little damage himself. Who knew? Very useful.

After a tense 20 minutes or so of repeating this technique, the pee spot dried enough that it wasn't visible any more. All was right with the world--and some new battle tactics learned at the same time.

This reminds me of some wisdom my grandmother used to share with me as a child: "pee spots on your DT robes will lead to better rogue skills." That never made sense to me until now.
