I have been Leveling on the Cannith Server and wow its been interesting, fun at times but usually not.
Some funny examples I have seen.
Level 9 Sorcerer without haste, firewall or fireball spamming snowball storm...***?
Level 17 Sorcerer with 118 hitpoints - with a thoughness feat! and 23 Cha!
Rogues always in sneak mode - Hello you get sneak attack damage as long as you dont get aggro!
A Halfling thrower who thinks his build is usefull... Are you serious?
35 Deaths on DQ 6Man!... But after 3 reentries we did it.
Dwarf Barbarians zerging ahead and have no knowledge of quests... Screaming HELP! HELP!
Just a few I can remember since ive been here...
Please add if you had some hard times on this server?
I've spent most of my recent play time leveling a 15/2 fs/monk on Cannith and it is a funny mix of play experiance. Everything is wierd.....I bought a heavy pick and a khopesh from the house d vendor.....both transmuting of pure good no race restriction on a server with no greensteel yet in play.......Ill just hand them out for up coming raid runs....
Been in a couple of raids so far.....they are very rare with a small high level popullation still and you might as well be prepaidd on the front end.....there is not a team effort warm and fuzzy dispertion habit being formed......I'll be suprized if raid loot doesn't get sold to highest bidder as a pollicy by the time the general player base gets brought in and aquanted with the raids.
I spent 40 min and soloed coal chamber and before end fight asked guild if anyone wanted flag....three level 14-15 did so I waited for last fight......they get in and I have 250ish kills so dungeon is not clean by any means. I finish boss tell them wife wants me for dinner and head out.....hear later the cleric barbarian and favored soul gave up after 30 min trying to get to end. I fealt terrible.....but after typing ten lines of instructions I fealt they would be ok. I was wrong.
Solo is so easy now......ah well....will continue to watch this train wreck develop.....

Yepp had lfm up for deleras said: no 1st timers have a clue please, got a tell sent from clr asking if he and his rng friend could join, i said yes and then we spent 20 mins waiting for em to get to the quests and another 10 in pt 2 (both of em speaking swahili or something) after that i just gave up and told em i was going to zerg it and they could leave if they didn´t like it.
Aside of that no problems and i´ve found a few likeminded speed-runners like my self.

Ive noticed that too... Waiting forever before we start quest... Also people opening chests when not everyone is in zone or quest after telling group to wait.
Also in lfm's ill put fast or know your way to quest... but guess some people cant read.

Most of my experiences have been pretty pleasant. You get the odd group of players who dont seem to have a clue, but that usually makes it a challenging run, which is what I need to keep me awake sometimes.
For some reason people seem to like grouping with me. It could be down to:
1. I am a cleric (probably)
2. I know my way around (maybe)
3. I am British (definately ;p)

I've been quite fortunate, actually.
While I've soloed a good 80+% of my Monk's career so far (he's now level 10) due to time constraints, I have grouped up several times so far and done remarkably well.
So far the only oddity was doing Threnal (this past Sunday) where we made it through East and West excavations, and then the group fell apart at the start of Abandoned :/ Guess I'll have to wait a few more levels, then just solo it (if I can). Grrr.
But otherwise, groups have been fairly good. Have done Delera's twice, Stormcleave once, and Gwylan's a few times with groups with no other issues. Was even in a Necropolis "hearts" group which did all 4 quests without problem (but not the Bloody Crypt, which I later managed to solo).
I'm reserving judgement on the Gianthold levels, though ;)
Crucible with first-timers could take a few hours, haha.

Gianthold hasnt been to bad... but in the vale quests there gimpness comes out and I will not pug in the vale again...lol.

That's just newbies being newbies. I kind of like that since I'm one myself. I see people with hilarious builds all the time. For instance, I played with a melee sorc: he claimed he was a two-handed fighting self-buffing machine of death. And I'll be damned if he didn't sound like he was thoroughly enjoying it.
He can join my groups whenever he wants.

FYI... at low levels any build can work... when you get into gianthold and beyond I am sure you will understand.

In previous MMOs, even as I reached the harder content, I never gave anyone trouble for having a suboptimal build. Sometimes, if I was the same class as them, I'd give them some advice, but I'm pretty tolerant about this. I don't care if I wipe in a dungeon and end up never finishing it, as long as I have some fun on the way.
Exception to this rule being, if a player with a terrible build brags about his DPS and his kill count. I have no qualms about setting them right rather rudely when that happens.

DDO requires some thinking and actually planning builds out. Raids require teamwork and proper gear and being able to listen and follow directions. Other MMO's do not, there made simple so anyone can play them.

Actual strange/funny stuff that happened? I thought that's what I wrote when I mentioned the melee sorcerer I grouped with. Actually, that's exactly what I did. Is it the fact I appeared understanding and amiable towards newbies with terrible builds that made you this aggressive, or did I do something else wrong?
I also don't remember ever mentioning a desire to go back to WoW, so I'll assume it's just you being dismissive.
On another note, a lot of the warriors I group with have no idea what intimitanking is. But the worst blunder so far had to be that time a rogue broke the fire elemental barrel in Depths of Darkness (Elite). Instant party wipe. We all laughed though; it was a stupid mistake, but it made for a pretty hectic fight when we went back in.

Why is it that people in every game think only THEIR game requires timing, teamwork, planning, and so on?
I don't get it.
Almost every MMO I've played has required some level of teamwork at endgame. The only difference is that some are more intense than others, but they all require some sort of co-ordination. EQ, DAoC, WoW, FFXI, EQ2, etc. DDO is no different.
*edit* PS - if you've never experienced an EQ raid pre-Kunark where 40+ players were tackling Plane of Fear, and a complete wipe meant you were going back there NAKED to try to recover your gear, only to wipe again - and that every time you died you lost xp, possibly even levels, and had a time limit to get your gear back or your corpse would disappear and you'd lose all of your gear - yeah... DDO, WoW, and other modern MMOs are a cake walk compared to what life used to be in the days of EQ or UO. Worst thing that happens these days is you have to repair your equipment (boohoo with 1395015019375 plat at most player's disposal) and some time.

I couldn't agree more on this. As a UO veteran, I can only sigh when people say the MMO they're currently playing is the most hardcore and challenging. You were always flagged for PVP, dungeons weren't instanced, and you dropped all your stuff when you died. Yeah, DDO is cake compared to that, and I'm sure UO wasn't even the hardest in its time.
DDO actually has one of the most forgiving learning curve of any MMO I've played. UO, RO, EQ, FFXI and, to a lesser extent, WoW, were all more challenging in my experience. This, of course, only applies to low levels: I've yet to see DDO's endgame.
Only thing you can really mess up on in this game is character creation, and man can you mess up badly. In WoW (again), you were efficient even with the most ridiculous spec. Not so here. But if you follow some of the guides on the class forums, the problem disappears fairly quickly.

i have had some challenging experiences...
low-mid levels, kept having to spend ever copper piece i made on pots cause clerics didnt understand that they can actually do more than melee lol
An amusing Crucible run where me, the sorc, solo's the maze except for someone on valves because no1 listened and they all just ran around getting lost and getting hurt, i was outta mana and my extended buffs (all 24 mins of them) were well and truly gone before i managed to get everyone out, made for a challenge to me
but the clincher... and this ones highly amusing, calling out "gather for haste" and not a single person stops
i have to say that pugging up till about lvl 12 could get a bit painful, but i made friends as well while i was at it that i still group with now.
After that, it eased off a bit and the only real problem ive found is people not having the right weapon types to hit certain monsters, usually because they didnt know, specially out in the vale quests, most especially running with the devils.

Yea GH for me has been pretty lucky, fell in with exp peeps and so far so good.
As for Vale quest, haven't touched those with my toons with a 10' pole or 9' Italian due to lack of prop weaps for my ranger.
As for "gather for haste" my fav has been that and the friend I was running with, always moved just out of range after stopping (exp retreat clickies FTW) got to the point (after the 10th or so and laughing) I said "don't make me think this is a pug and stop even offering to cast haste" LOL

cannith is very heterogeneous, a good group gives you the same experience than a good one on another older server, but the problem is when you join an unexperienced group and then can spend a long long time finishing a basic quest. for example i joined a group for redwillow last week with my wizard and lead wanted every single optional to be done, including trying to open the fake chest in the cave during 15mn... or once i joined a ww elite lfm, opened elite then leader complained about starting it on elite and the lack of fun cuz its too hard... after several wipes in 40 mn the lead finished the quest without all players in, while several players were resurecting in a pub including me. and the mere lack was of skills & knowledge from the group. maybe the reason why i now play again on thelanis.

I don't get it.
Ego, from people who think they are the bee's knees and can do no wrong. (heads up, these people are actually the worst in pugs) I laugh when i hear people talk about how hardcore they are in any game really, because all i can think of is the group that tried to take down that boss in FFXI, that took 18 hours of constant playing, and they still didn't get it down. My favorite line: "were forced to admit defeat when members of the LS began "passing out and getting physically ill."
Complaining about newbies is pathetic, of course they are making silly mistakes, they are "new". Don't like it? Don't roll on the new servers, and only play with those you did before, if they still play. Me? I love playing again, with all the crazy unexpected that can bring. The unpredictable makes life interesting.

Bring a buddy or make a good solo build. My wife and I have leveled to 14 on this server and only grouped about six times in all. We are both Dragon and Titan ready but have yet to run either. I had requested to join a dragon group last weekend but was refused because I didnt have a str of 30 (dex ranger ). I told the party leader I had a 24, 26 with rams might, but never got a response. The group went down a few minutes later only to reappear within twenty minutes with a heading of "ANYONE HAVE A CLUE TO HOW THIS WORKS PLEASE SEND TELL". I decided to go and grab some taps instead, go figure.

Ghoste, don't know you at all other then your videos and postings but you seem like someone who like a challenge. Capping a character on this server was the biggest challenge I've had in DDO, granted I made a healer class but that's another story. Just beware it is really addicting, and it's harder and harder for me to log onto other servers nowadays.
Now if we can all get together and make the new kidz realize that Rangers are a DPS class we will be taking a big step forward :p

I've generally had good results, but occasionally do get the oddball player whose class can't perform the kinds of duties you expect them to. Or the tanks who don't have the appropriate weapons. On those occasions, things do get *interesting*, but I don't feel like everyone has to be min-maxed all time in order for success to come. It just means you're trying a dungeon difficulty that's too hard.
Part of the challenge of the game is knowing the dungeon, and knowing what the party is capable of. But the biggest problem I see more often than not is the party leader not knowing when to boot someone. For me, - incompetence is excusable, but being a jerk is not. Or, you know, running off in some other direction because "This is the order this quest is done in!" - I don't care. Stick with the party.
Which is why, since I've already ran the quests with my higher level cleric, with my bard, I prefer to be leader. Because then I can make sure I build a good group, and I can toss offenders to the side before they spoil everyone else's fun.
Another big problem is just lack of people - I find it hard to find clerics in the level 6-10 range, and I've never met a FvS that could replace even the worst of clerics.
Other big problem on Cannith is that most people are F2P. I broke down a while back and bought GH, S2K and 3BC just recently. Finding groups for GH doesn't seem to be a problem since higher level quests are rare enough that most higher level characters kind of have to buy it, but S2K and 3BC are harder to find groups for. So, if you're doing Paid content, expect to take an already small population, and then narrow it down even further.

Any experienced fvs can run circles around a cleric for the most part.I find that after building a capping two or three clerics that fvs is 200 times easier and better to play.I can do everything a cleric can do but with the sp of a sorc. Its like a cleric easy button.Yo0u must be grouping with the wrong fvs

I am having a GREAT time here on Cannith. I moved here because of the insane AH prices on Sarlona...I am a returning player from way back when the cap was lvl 10...Nice tasty changes I'm loving DDO now. Prices are better ...economy is still a little screwed up since FTP came along but its better here. I am not FTP by the way. I think I should be considered a noob though....My highest toon is an 8th Monk and I also have an 8th FVS...loved em both but left them on Sarlona. I am running a build I saw on the forums 17cl 2 monk 1 rog currently half a bubble from lvl 5. Should cover that tonight . I have soloed always....I want to group but it just never works out that way. Need a solid guild I guess but usualy they want experienced players and having reached just lvl 8 on 2 toons via solo play I am still just a noob...Having fun though....Soloing Tears of Dhakan on my 8th monk was Fun! Needed rogue skill though...Learning as I go about that hence the new build with rogue abilities....Gotta boost those skills a bit more I think. If anyone wants to do some group runs let me know...Name is Shayed on Cannith I am in the western time zone if that matters.
