It’s that time of year again: the weather turns colder, the leaves turn colorful, and spooky fun turns up everywhere. It also means it’s the perfect time for a pumpkin carving contest! We’re looking for the best DDO-themed carved pumpkins! You could win a custom title on the forums, and one lucky winner will win 500 Turbine Points. Your carving can be of your favorite creepy DDO creature, spooky scenes from around Eberron, emblems and icons, or anything else from (or about) the game!
Turbine will accept digital photographs of entries from October 12th through October 30th. Eligible winners will receive a special forum title (“Dragonmark of Spooky”) and their winning entries may even be featured on DDO.com! One lucky first prize winner will additionally receive 500 Turbine Points!
Entries must be original creations, should be at least 1024x768 in resolution, and no larger than 6MB in file size. Photograph your pumpkin and enter it in the following category: DDO pumpkins
Need some inspiration, or just like to carve pumpkins? You can use this Turbine logo template to start practicing! Download the template by clicking here (http://www.ddo.com/media/article_images/Forum%20Assets/pumpkin%20template.pdf).
How to use a pumpkin carving template:
Print the template on a sheet of paper.
Cut along the dashed lines in the corners (this will help your template lay against the round surface of the pumpkin).
Attach the paper to the desired side of the pumpkin where you want the design to show.
Follow along the black lines poking small holes through the paper into the pumpkin’s skin.
Remove the paper template and you will see dots in the shape of the design on the pumpkin’s skin.
Connect the dots, and then start carving! Keep your template beside you to help you as you go – the gray shaded parts are the ones that will come out of the Pumpkin.
Now you know how to use a template to carve your very own Turbine fan pumpkin! You can make your own templates and use the same techniques to apply them to your pumpkins!
Ready to get started? Click here (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=206963) for official rules and tips on sending in your pumpkin entry!

Sounds awesome! Unfortunately, my crafting skill is really quite low, so I am afraid that I will not be able to participate in the contest. I cast good hope upon those who do enter the contest though!
(And on a side note, the top prize is 500 Turbine Points and a custom title? You might want to consider rethinking the top price you offer; while a lifetime membership may not be a good choice for a prize, depending on where you live, it might be cheaper just to buy the Turbine Points itself instead of a Pumpkin! If you want a suggestion from me, id offer, say, 2000 Turbine Points to the top winner.)

Sounds like fun. :) I usually don't carve pumpkins anymore, but I'm looking forward to seeing those submitted by others!
After the contest is over, can we see a gallery of all of those submitted (or say 100 best of the lot)? Thanks. :D

The contest is open to registered players who are age 18 or older with an active Turbine account.

Thank you!
Not that I'm much of a pumpkin carver myself, but glad to see the non-US players get some love.

My problem is that I haven't carved a pumpkin in over 10 years. Instead, I carve a watermelon.
Would you take a carved watermelon as an alternative?

Pumpkin carving?!?!? CLANKY IS IN!
To all of you people out there who think you have no time to carve a pumpkin into a Jack-o-lantern (no, I'm not talking about just you guys in this thread)...
Consider spending one less hour playing DDo and shift that focus to one hour spent carving a friggin' pumpkin!:D Tolero spent one less hour campaigning for "/chair" to make this contest up. It's the least you could do to make her efforts a success! Now go buy a pumpkin and carve it!
(Extra points will be awarded for greater two-handed carving.)
(p.s. On the outside chance that I win this contest, can I craft my forum title ingredients for the one I really want? "Dragonmark of Making" + "Hall of Famer" + "Hall of Famer" + "Dragonmark of Spooky" ==> "Clerical Error". That's a title to be proud of!)

Not to be a pessimist but seeing that a pumpkin cost the same or more that it would to buy 500 points, what stops one from just finding a pumpkin carving on google and posting that with a fake time stamp?

It isn't about the money errr.... points. It is about the glory.
I would also like to second Clanky's thoughts. Can the winner pick their user title. Dragonmark of Spooky is great in all, but I have always thought I was more of a "Dragonmark of Awesome" kind of person.

You missed my point, That's the problem though, Glory can be had by cheats over the internet rather easily this day and age. So Internet glory has no meaning for me when all you need to do is produce a picture of a pumpkin carving.

Is there a surplus of D&D pumpkin templates that I'm not aware of? oO (if so point them out, I wanna carve some)
Judging will be as far as can be possible. As a person with a halloween birthday, I love to look at pumpkin carvings and "extreme" pumpkins...for many years. If you're going to steal a pumpkin and try to pass it off as your own, you better hope it's an obscure one. I've seen a looooooot of pumpkins in my time.

Well, actually... this is the closest I could find...and will share with you Tolero;

I like the Dragon head personally... :D ala, "Founder Pumpkin"
Regarding your Extreme Pumpkins.... Just for fun (and not for the squeamish!)
http://www.extremepumpkins.com
There was actually a great show on this subject just the other night on A&E I think... maybe it was Discovery Channel...dunno, it was late. Likely be on again this month.
Now on to Pumpkin Stencils....
These others below, not per-say specific DnD pumpkin stencils, but offer quite a few to select from or inspire. :)
Had a nice selection of templates.
http://www.zombiepumpkins.com/patterns.php
http://www.stoneykins.com
This site looked good too, but I believe they offered only 100 free ones, beyond that a donation of $5.00 is asked for to sign up for the rest of the 1,000 (or whatever). The sneak peak looked like it had some nice ones.
This site had a lot too to look over.
http://www.carvingpumpkins.com
And this site if you need some tools or inspiration:
http://www.pumpkinmasters.com/default.asp
* Note: I have nothing to do with any of these sites... and likely won't participate in the brutal slaughter of defenseless pumpkins, ripping out their guts and eating their seeds. Then again... with a little spiced hard cider, anything is possible... ;)
Good luck to all!

Clankenbeard hereby chimes in that at least one pumpkin has been submitted to the contest! Um... from me. I am that submitter. "Screenshot or it didn't happen!" you say? Oh, it happened. Those pixelations are there to protect everybody from the awesome scariness of my evil pumpkin's vacant stare! See how scared I was of it? Saving throw vs. creepy? Fail. (Okay, that's not true. I'm screaming because some of my fingers got accidentally pixelated in the process of obscuring the pumpkin face and that really hurts. Also, the carving knife is still lodged in the top of my head.)
http://www.wanderingmonster.com/Ddo/ClankenbeardsPumpkin.jpg
So you say,"That photograph could have been taken last year!" Well that shirt came for me in the mail from Alex Haddox (from the DDoCast (http://www.ddocast.com/) and his own self defense website & podcast (http://www.alexhaddox.com/)) not more than two weeks ago. Tell 'em Alex! "That could be a basketball!" you say? Well. Um. Yeah. I guess it could. But, I'll tell ya, basketballs are a lot harder to carve. The first cut is the easiest and most startling.
Do I have a chance? Maybe. My pumpkin doesn't look too grand with the lights out as per the official rules, so I'll probably fall short of any prizes. I'm just keepin' everybody on their toes. Anybody else submit an entry yet? Screeny or it didn't happen! (By the way, I didn't blur me in the photo on purpose. My kid just takes crappy pictures. :D)

I got a pattern almost finished. Does that count? :D
I came to the depressing realization that my carving gear is tucked away somewhere in the darkest depths of my storage unit.

I came to the depressing realization that my carving gear is tucked away somewhere in the darkest depths of my storage unit.Lack of carving gear is not an excuse. My pumpkin was carved with only rudimentary tools. I anticipated a "weaseling out" of general forum folk and took this pre-emptive "you don't need much" photograph. That's right. Clanky used his +1 paring knife of creepiness and his +110V electric drill of augering. (My weiner kids kept hogging all of the store-bought carving tools.)

CD, you the man! (He's a big dude, everybody--I met him in Jillians at GenCon.) Come through on this one. How you gonna have 10,000 posts and not have a fancy forum title? Okay. Well, I guess "Founder" is a pretty good one. Maybe they'll let you have "Founder of Spookiness".

Them's some jam up pumpkins over there on Turbine's Flikr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/44051915@N03/sets/72157622675542984/)! There's a frickin' load of creative people playing these games. Got a chuckle out of that one.:D:cool:
I liked Stroen's Beholder, the eyes were a nice touch.
Clank, I liked your 3d beholder, just needed more light. I used 4 candles in my Dirk, cause the pumpkin was so thick, and 3 in my DDO demon.

Thank you very much Tous! The eyes were plastic practice golf balls with glowsticks inserted in them. The eyestalks were the cardboard from pant hangers, easy to adjust the direction the eyes were directed :) and the different colors of the eyes allowed for variety of beams the Beholders flash at their victims ;)

I carved the stormreach box, but because of the gross oversight of pumpkins being harder . . . art . . . than paper, the dragons face was a little rougher than I wanted to claim. . . also it's wings go straight up and off of the box which doesn't bode too well for carving since pumpkins are bigger than game boxes. Oh well, next year perhaps.

This is the first time I carved a pumpkin and I thought I did pretty well. Then I saw what others can do and I felt like a 5 year old showing his first drawing to his dad :D I didn't know you can get different shades by not carving all the way in or just by scraping the skin off. Next year I'll do better :)
