View Full Version : A public service announcement for pugs
Kalari

Yeah normally as much as I enjoy reading drama I dont normally try to start any. But I felt this public service needed to be said especially here on my favorite server.
If your gonna brag about your dps, uber weapon (specially since I probably just sold one of them to the vendor in house d since they are ****). At least have the decency not to be a completely useless tool who dies every step of the way. And if you must get on mic to talk about how to take on a quest know what the heck your talking about.
Im all for players who are uber and know their stuff. Im sick of players who dont who get on mic and talk endlessly about **** they dont know and embarrass themselves further by dying a heck of a lot even though they p'own everything supposedly. Im looking at you exploiter build guy who thinks your +1 transmuter or ooze bane is the bomb diggity.
Oh my gawd the pugs ive been in lately have been full of them types and its gone from something I could laugh at and make comments in guild chat with others about to just wanting to have my computer die right on the spot so that I didnt have to hear any more. Ive never been so thankful to finish some quests just to get out of there and away from the nonsense.
Either way just felt the need to get it out stop bragging put away the tickle mob weapons and dont give advice if your a dumbarse :)
This has been a Kalari public service announcement.

I recalled out and dropped mid-quest the other day because the pug-leader was an absolute tool. I then proceeded to squelch him forever. Problem solved. Funny thing is, right before I clicked on "Leave Party" the cleric dropped so I bet the pug was detonating.

Oh yeah lately the pugging has been hit or miss. Ive heard everything from endless bragging with nothing to back it up. To feeling like I was trapped in a 70's variety show full of bad jokes, singing and even lamer "oops my bad guys I aggroed stuff." I was waiting for a drum to badum bump in the background.
Im just trying to save lame people from completely being avoided by those who do know what they are doing. If you have the need to constantly use the mic at least be really entertaining. But if your the only person laughing at your jokes that should tell you its time to stop hitting push to talk :)
and hehe Baltire glad ya like my lingo :)

Even worse is chasing down the mobs that are aggroed on the ranged rogue/ranger and the wizard/sorc. I am so tempted just to let the die and carry then stone to the middle of nowhere.

I'll admit it I'm really rusty on quests just coming back to the game recently. But I agree it really does not take all that long to figure out DDO 101 about group play. It is always annoying when you get PUGs that just don't listen.
PUG Pet Peeves
* Running through a trap knowing its there and asking the cleric to heal you even when the party has a rouge that could if you waited a minute taken care of it.
* Claiming your Uber or Leet
* Doing the above even though you keep dieing or getting the group wiped from over pull.
* Doing the above and blaming it on the healer not knowing how to play.
* Rushing a quest when it is clear that was not the goal of the party.
* Doing the above and then calling everyone a noob since they are not rushing.
* Demanding someone elses chest loot instead of asking.
* Calling anyone's build gimp before they hand a chance to prove otherwise.
* Hating on Warforged
I have more but those are what I seem to be running into a lot since I came back.

This has been a Kalari public service announcement.
Worth logging in for today Kal...thanks!
:D
I haven't seen too many folks bragging about their uber1337ness, just lots of crappy tanks trying to pad their kill counts. Apparently running off by yourself to clear a mob and forcing the rest of the group to come to your rescue is the BEST way to go about finishing a dungeon! You cost the group unecessary time and resources, but by golly you had more kills when the group wiped!
Also lots of jackasses spouting **** in gen and advice chat, but that's another thread.
Does squelching someone block them entirely, or just block their chat? For instance, if I develop an intense hatred towards someone and never want to group with them again, will squelching them prevent me from seeing any of their groups or seeing them when I'm LFM after my hatred has faded and I forget their name? Or do I need to keep a list of people not to group with on hand?

Its all about the learning curve.
I remember when I pulled my first +1 Heavy Shield 3 years ago. I thought I was the bomb, had teh best shield in the world. Let these guys have their fun. If a +1 transmuter is their uber, let it be.
You too were once new and excited about the small stuff.

Keep a list. You can squelch them and not hear them or see them in chat though.

Yeah ... I don't think it's that.. I think it's the 12 year old mentality that grates on one's nerves eventually after repeated play. Example, from oh a year and a half ago. WF barb joins Tor run, and proceeds to brag non-stop about how he's an absolute DPS monster and how he will pwn everything. I think he killed 4 giants probably. (Ok, so we all had dual w/p rapiers and minIIs, and the bastards were trying to outkill my sorc for fun ;) - he REALLY picked the wrong group, but that's not the actual point of this :))
But here's the kicker. He started harassing some of the melees via tells about how it was possible they were killing so fast, and accusing them of exploiting, and how that was the only way they could be doing that because he was so uber, etc etc. He then dropped group. (Thankfully)
I have taken some newbs (not noobs) on lowbie quests to be nice here and there, and some are nice enough and I felt good about it, but one really has to pay attention to how they ask for help in order to get a feel for them and weed out the noobs.
Summary: Kalari, I feel your pain, but if you are the one making the group, you can weed them out by only inviting players you have reason to believe will be ok :)

Ya but I didnt spend the whole quest over mic talking like it was the end all and no one can match my dps with it. I dont mind excitement but man dont spend the quest bragging when your spending more time as a soul stone.
And trust me Agamon you know ive limited my pugs and lately this has been the reason why its painful to listen to lol.

*sigh*
Man....
Y'all make me so sad. How come I rarely get to group with people like you? I've met a few good/decent players that I try to join with when I can. However, most of the time I'm grouped with people who are new and evince all the traits complained about above or with some of the vets who rush through so fast they leave my slow-a$$ed clerical butt behind. The worst is when they're a combination of both and then they get into a fight and die while I'm still running to get to them... which, of course, is my fault.
I have had to remind some people that clerics don't get a speed buff that's useable in a dungeon. Sure, I can get a clicky or two, But I've already got 6 quickslot bars with tons of stuff/spells in them, I don't need more.
Now I find myself halfway through 12th trying to get both exp and favor and find myself getting dragged through dungeons in which I get little to no exp. Either because I'm herding a bunch of people 3-4 levels lower than me, or because I'm expected to heal-bot a group that are 4+ above me doing the run for favor. I don't mind the favor part, as I really want to get the 32 point builds, but still... sometimes it's disheartening to play for hours and not get a single point of exp.
Ok... sometimes it's fun. I've gotten to see a few new places and learn a few things. And the higher level(vet) groups tend to be more understanding of my gimpyness. As a returning player without anything leftover from when I left, I'm doing ok. However, there is still a long way for me to go. Plus there's still a lot of exp for me to get as well.
Ah well...
*Rant ends with a sigh*
I feel much better now. Thank you.

SNIP.
I hope things questing wise get better for you it can really be rough. I am so glad I did not start my ddo playing out as a healer. I have a few now but if I had started as one their is no way Id still be playing this game. All I can tell you is to learn that you cant heal stupid. And look for the names in my signature if I am on I am sure I can switch to a level appropriate girl and run ya threw some stuff for exp. Though the names in my sig are between 16-20 I do have a couple left that are 14 and under so if you need any help getting experience let me know. As for the warforge thing every forge who has run with my mages and clerics know I have no problems with healing them as long as they dont act dumb its the same for fleshies I dont heal stupid.
And heres another PSA for arcanes, if your in GH thats right Gianthold by the time you are level 13+ if you cant find yourself a heavy fort item be it a belt, ring, robe, or farm some taps for a minos legend then please feel free to avoid my groups. Yes you should not really be getting hit but sometimes bad things happen and you should really try to incorporate it into your build. Also meta magics are your friend. If your tossing a firewall that does no damage to trolls at level 12+ then your gimped my friend no ifs or buts about it. Grab yourself a maximize and empower or at least one of the two get a potency item heck the scepters drop like candy for me I will mail them if needed. And learn to burn properly. Im looking at you mister sorc who tries to insta kill a red named. Your fingers dont do **** against them.
Thats all for now I think the more I pug though the more psa's will come :p

Heh. I will. Though I believe I might have run with you once or twice already. Severi sounds very familiar. Of course, there are a lot of names that flash through your skull in PUGs.
As for the sorc thing. Is it true that Sorcs have a deathwish? I have met one, count them... ONE, sorceror who did more than pay lip service to aggro control and/or CC. The number of times I've had to rez a sorc because he/she starts nuking before the tank can even think about trying to intimidate(assuming he/she is one of the 15% that actually use intimidate) is just sad. It's times like that when I start reverting back to my conservative desire for a very strong death penalty. If you are one of those few tanks that uses intimidate, my next batch of cookies is in your honor.
Oh well. C'est la vie. Somehow, I do still manage to have fun in the game.

So yeah... other night, Black Anvil Mine group... Two clerics, a couple of three class ranger/ftr/cleric/monk somethings, my fighter and a sorc. First cleric goes LD on way in..that's ok, we'll wait, right?
Then while the three classers are bragging about how uber they are, the other cleric says he had something come up..and runs. So the guy that's doing the loudest bragging just starts saying gogogo and goes on in. I mention the fact that we don't seem to have a healer and they say, and I quote, "Put on a shield, it's fine."
You can probably figure out my response. . . .

What the heck is up with arcanes who have to make the run to Meridia to do the shroud? If you are shroud flagged it means youve been to Meridia right? And if youve been to Meridia it means you can click on that little teleport spell or scroll to get your arse to the group.
Fighters and non umd melees I can understand clerics I can understand but come the freak on Arcanes your making me give the stank eye. If you cant be bothered to spend a few gold to get a couple of teleport scrolls (sold in the portable hole and house J's arcane shop). Then bite the bullet go to the darn ddo store and get a rod of teleport. But for goodness sake stop joining shrouds if your not even in meridia cause its embarrassing and shows the people waiting on you that your a noob, or just cheap and weird.

My fav is the guy who joins a shroud lfm that says, "Shroud. BYOBuffs. Very fast" when the group has 11 peeps. Then he says, gotta drop to run. Come to find out hes in Amrath. Ugh. Best part, there were three other runs up with less people lol. Hey guess what, If we want to run shroud in 15 min or less, we dont want to wait for the last guy to run through the vale! We go with 11 :D
