Last night I joined a Tower of Despair run with Hoko, Beeest, Kuratio, Warpig(?), and a host of others. I explained to the group this is my first time but I had watched Spyderwolf's you tube videos. On a side note, huge thanks goes out to Spyderwolf for taking the time to create the library of videos.
Because it was my first time I needed to make the run out to the tower and had to drop raid group. Kuratio was kind enough to run me to the entrance.
First part went pretty quick, no deaths. In fact the entire raid went pretty quick with no deaths. Considering my relative new participant, I was just glad I could keep up and not die.
I was told by many, don't think all TOD runs will be like that. Apparently the group had some significant DPS and many of the tanks had their boots so there were more than one person beating down Herod which increases the likelihood of a succesful completion.
I didn't get any of the Paladin raid items so I put up all of my items up for roll.
Once again thank you to all the people in the raid for being patient and answering my questions.

To Kristofff, Missdivine, Beest, Calvinoex for allowing me to join them in last nights TOD run.
Succesful completion always is a good thing, my second. One death by me.
I send these thank you out because I do not have my boots yet and I know I maybe limiting the DPS in the raid by not having them.
Once again, thank you.

You dont need boots to melee in ToD. Wait till he throws a blastphemy, then go pound him for a minute (literally a minute) then back out and go back to ranged.
As a side note, if you have any sneak attack, you can get close enough to SA him, but still be out of his banishment range (with a ranged weapon obviously.)

Hmm... will have to use that tactic....
Thanks for the insight.

We have everyone range, then when he throws a banish, cleric comes in and throws recitation, bard comes in for ac song, tank removes boots for haste, group comes in and melees for 1 minute, then back to ranging.

Like to see this tactic in action. I will try to look for your LFM in game.

Sounds like a good group to make a first run with. As I've only run the raid with either mostly-guild groups or other groups formed from people I know, I'm quite curious as to what the success rate looks like in some of the random pug groups. It seems that shroud pugs are still pretty dodgy, but I've noticed that its mostly veterans I see hanging around Amrath. Are the newer players even attempting to form Tower runs?

tower runs (at least ones im on) tend to go well, hard part seems to be part 2 here cause once we get to part 3 everyone either knows what they are doing or pikes it up in a corner and doesn't hinder us by dying :P

The two times I went in a Tower run it failed in part 2 because of a combination of difficulty and lag... Get im' down to 15% and the lag suddenly catches up and we all fall down...

Well I was able to gather the necessay ingredients to finally craft my boots.
So, I am geared up and locked cocked and ready to rock now.

Outstanding! I finally got through a run that didn't lag out on part 2 myself. Now to farm for those crafting pieces...

Yeah, I screwed up. I got all excited running with Quantom Entropy and wanted to make a good impression and failed to listen to instructions.
Won't happen again.;);)
At least I didn't die in Part 3. I am just bummed we only had one ring pulled.
