Hello, I've created a Dwarven Cleric (Lvl3 Warpriest of Siberys, in case that matters), who does not appear to have the innate racial of proficiency with the dwarven waraxe, as it says I should have in the manual.

Has that gone away? Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance,

Dwarves treat the Dwarven Axe as a martial weapon. Clerics do not gain all martial weapons.

You will only have proficiency with it if you are a full/part Ranger, Barbarian, Paladin or Fighter

Dwarves treat dwarven axes as a martial weapon instead of exotic, they don't get automatic proficiency. You would be proficient only if your class was naturally proficient in all martial weapons (fighter, barbarian, ranger, pally)

when all the normal dorfs were learning to bash each other over the head with steel, you and a few other dorfs were learning something a little more intellectual. so for a normal dorf the dorf axe is about as exotic as bangers and mash is to an englishman. however the clerics, rogues and casters were too busy with their books and other peoples pockets to bother learning about any type of axe. sure they know what a dorf axe is, their dad probably made them go to bed with one in the hopes something rubbed off. but it didnt, so your cleric has arrived in stormreach without a dorf axe cos he had enough on his plate to learn about the spells to grasp the finer intricacies of martial melee.

you wont be the first person to wonder why you cant swing a dorf axe, and you wont be the last, i just hope my little story shows you what some dorfs get access to the axe. its all the detail as already explained in the posts above. dorfs thing the dorf axe is martial (not exotic), clerics don't bother to learn martial weapons, ergo no dorf axe or longsword.

Oi, well said Alex. Always remember the weapon classes you can access.
If your cleric was new, what skills did you let him have? If you really really want the axe, then reroll, but off of Korthos, you can opt for a warhammer...

Ah, I was mistaken. Thanks for the clarification.

So, if I take a level in (say) fighter - which I've been thinking about anyway - I would then get it, yeah?

Cheers!

Yup.

Is why my dwarven cleric started out as a fighter for his original class. Wanted to have proficiencies in all those martial weapons, including dwarven waraxe.

And since my current main melee weapon is an acid touched +1 dwarven waraxe, I'm glad I did. :D

Dwarf clerics usually use warhammer-type weapons in most D&D lore.
