This is my first attempt at a healing wizard. Took all the Dragonmarks and the matching enhancements. Just curious as to how effective this build would be, I don't have 32 yet (going to build on Cannith) but may hold off to that point. Went with 12 str as I have being burdened.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi,
grain of salt time, but I am that wizard. I do have 32 points to start with though and I can tell you what I did/ do to make it all work.

One, umd is your friend your marks are for the big heals/emergencies. But you were right about that burdened thing so you always have to watch your weight. But the heighter you can start your CHR the better. Take your str to 10 and look for chances for a +2 tome. Also you will want a Chr tome look for 1 of them too. It is more important than all other tomes than INT.

you have lots of tricks for watching you weight. Only keep a few hundred of each spell component. If you find yourself running out you can make a quick bar in to gage for them to keep an eye on there number. You can also keep a main bag in your bank for collectibles and what not and put just gathered collectibles into it. And you will learn other tricks for having a low carrying capacity.

Also there are a few must get items, the 7 finger gloves, and a VOM and upgrade to a head of good fortune asap! Also the skill focus umd is a big help. But a good starting chr score is a really the key.

Now you are at 20 and you did all the right stuff and you have a great umd (how great? Mine is 35 (buffed and geared) and I can get 2 more from a exp chr +2 and the head, I could be no fail with a bard song) and the healing marks is it worth the work?

I think so I use almost all my heals in the end game not on me but on others a long with the second tear marks. I use the lowest marks on myself most of the time and heal scrolls.

Oh so you can see

Just noticed however, you will never stand up from a trip. your little and will get tripped. you need balance!

you don't need search your a Wizard, that is what wands are for.

Very nice.

I disagree with samius about needing UMD, but hey a lot of people go that way. OTOH, I definitely agree with samius that you don't need the ranks in Search.

I'd think about moving them to Diplomacy to help you manage agro.

Also, I am not a big fan of Quicken on a wizard. On a cleric, sure, but I think it is less valuable on a WIZ. If you dropped it you could fit in Greater Spell Pen which I think is practically a must-have for a necro-spec caster.

Well, I have to say, I was trying to find a character to play that I would enjoy, but I think this may be it.

I'll probably modify it a bit, because the main focus won't be healing... just a nice bonus to the class :D

Thanks for the idea!

Haven't rolled him yet but I think I'll give it a try on the weekend. Defenitly going to drop the search and fill balance. I think its going to be quite an interesting alt

Quicken is one of those meta feats that it is better to have and not want all the time then want and not have!

You will cast long casting time spells or spelling in the heat of battle, and even with a max concentration you will get hit hard enough that you will fail the check and lose the spell that would have saved your life. You will want this guy often enough to make getting it worth it.

My thinking is with as feat-starved as this build is going to be for non-meta's and as tight as the enhancements you'll want will be that this would be a good wizard to build with a buffing/healing (warforged included) focus. First, here's my build idea without any enhancements listed:

Now Samiusbot has a good point about UMD. I could see the argument for taking SF:UMD and putting the 2 points into Cha instead of Wis (and all 6 points in a 32-point build). You could swap out Imp. Mental Toughness or Toughness to pick up SF:UMD if desired. Insightful Reflexes is another feat that could be argued for that slot.

On the enhancements I originally planned out maxing Dragonmarks (10), Improved Empower (12), Improved Maximize (12), Intelligence (12), Energy (10), Capstone (2), and all 3 areas of Force Magic (6, 6, and 10). Unfortunately you simply can't take that few enhancements without getting tripped up on progression a few times. I decided to drop the last point of int (6), the last point or two of energy (4 or 7), and the last point of the crit multiplier (3). In its place you max out the wand % (10), the wand DC to +2 or +3 (3 or 6), and Toughness II or not at all (0 or 3). Taking the wand enhancements clears up your progression hurdles and honestly fits very nicely with the SF:UMD suggestion as well. As Sam pointed out, properly buffed and geared you'll have a UMD in the 30's even if you're going 28-point build. And all along the leveling curve if you keep eagle's splendor up (or a +4 or higher UMD item) you should be able to do decent with some wands for healing between fights. Those 6 points of cha would make a big difference there so a 32-point build has a distinct advantage on that part.

In any case though you'll be able to do fairly well with using wands/scrolls to get by. You can keep empower/maximize both on a lot of the time and act as the 'oh ****' button with your maximized and empowered heals - both with you dragonmarks on the fleshies and with your fully supported force spells on the warforged. And you'll still have near max in sp's depending on your feat decisions. And you can still drop firewalls, etc...you just won't do as much damage with them as someone that spec'd into the fire lines.

One other thing I should mention - you could level this exact build up but swap out fire/cold for force. It would be a more offensive oriented build that you shift to a healing build with an enhancement respec when you get to the point that your spells are getting resisted too much and/or you're more needed for healing and buffing.

I have one of these little monstrousities and I can tell you that they are **** fun to play. Mine is currently at level 19 and I'm close to having her decked out the way I want.

Your stat points look ok, but like others have said I'd drop the search and add a point of balance in at each level up.

Feats are tight and required multiple swap outs to optimize metas I had during leveling. I didn't end up taking mental toughness until end game so I always felt strapped for spell points, which meant I had to use more mana pots than I wanted.

My level 20 feats will be (not taken in this order)
1) Spell Pen I
3) Spell Pen II
6) Mental Toughness
9) Least Mark of Healing
12) Lesser Mark of Healing
15) Greater Mark of Healing
18) Improved Mental Toughness

Metas
1) Maximize
5) Empower
10) Extend
15) Heighten
20) Enlarge

This is funny I still haven't taken Spell pen 1 or 2 I took two weapon fighting, weapon finesse and umd focus. And I never felt like I ran out of Sp or had a problem getting around SR.

Hmm play styles I guess.
