View Full Version : Looking for a new-player-friendly, casual, slower-paced, roleplay-oriented guild?

Well, so am I.
I'm pretty new to the game, but I've been playing D&D in various forms, off and on, for a couple of decades or more. I like exploring and experiencing the game's content, adventures, setting, lore, and the fun of discovery as well as the social aspect. I also really like RP, character development, storytelling, and being immersed into the game world.
I'm not into the permadeath idea, really, or into speedily zooming through the game in order to quickly gain levels, get loot, earn favor, or hurry up and hit "endgame" so I can be uber. I want to take my time and enjoy the game's many quests and locations for their own sake, seeing what's there, completing things a bit more deliberately rather than rushing toward a "goal" as such.
If there are any guilds already on Cannith with this mindset, and very welcoming to new players . . . great! Let me know, I'd love to join up.
If not...
...let's make one!
Who else is interested in this sort of guild?
I'd say that roleplayers would be ideal, but I think that a guild where roleplay isn't required would be best. People who just want to play and have fun, and actually enjoy the game content itself, who aren't in a hurry, who don't need to be the best or have bragging rights. Players who perhaps appreciate the setting and lore, and wouldn't mind being in a guild with some ties to an in-game concept with some people more in-character than others, but maybe aren't so much into the whole roleplaying thing themselves . . . that would be fine.
So, new players, casual players, explorers, roleplay-friendly (or roleplay-curious?) social players? Who's on Cannith, not in a guild, and think this sounds like your style?
If a few people are interested, I don't mind setting up a guild for us.

Good Luck with the new guild and more importantly....Welcome to DDO!
If you create it, let us know as I get asked by new people to the game who want to join my guild, but for what we have created would not be a fit. I could refer them your way
See you around the Harbor!

That sounds great. If you find one like that on Cannith, please post about it. I'm looking for a guild like that or one large enough were that could be a subset of members. I played StK with a pug the other day and I almost never took my finger off the forward button.

Your idea for a guild sounds very much like the guild a few of us new players started. We call our guild the Doom Brigade. Feel free to look us up on Cannith, and can find more information about our set up and goals by visiting our site (see my signature/underconstruction) or the forums threads here (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=205903) and here (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=204305). We are all very new to the game and under level 5. So far we have 14 members. If you decide we are not what your looking for, good luck with starting your own, I'm sure it will be a great addition to the server.

My friends and I are kinda holding off on guilds, but it sounds great!
We're entirely of like mindset. Myself, I'm a big time rp geek. (join the channel wayfinders for some decent rp and great people!) So look up Smudge or Thrallia if you want someone to chat to, or need someone for a run! :) No zerging for this gal.

Absolutely. I'm always around for some RP and no Zerging runs. :) I'll keep you in mind.

im definatly interested in a guild like this...
and yea id be willing to start one with you. Right now im just trying to get a static RP group going, but hey if everyone wants to join a new guild and start the group. Who knows maybe people will join up.
Personally i dont like rules, i dont like perma death.. I think RP should be fun and casual. If you wanna power game and transfer gold.. or buy tons of items, or trade or what ever.. to me thats fine. But when in the RP group, the only rule is RP !!! well that and sticking by the groups play style.
But to me other than that its all up to the person..

Any luck finding something? As soon as I reach lvl 4 (soon) I'll be purchasing veteran status from the DDO store (I'm a an alt-maniac, will be the best MMO $15 spent ever) and can move to any server if I find the right guild. Or, really, even just a group of players who is interested in a semi-realistic, zerg-less play style. I joined DDO hoping for an experience at least marginally similar to that of a tabletop group.

I am so tired of looking for a group and all they do is run through the quest fast as lightning...all the while I am back at the beginning looking for secret doors or places that we missed. I never get to read the scripts of the NPCs i just have to click and go to keep up to the next quest. DONE WITH THAT...I want to enjoy the game..yes I want to level and get loot but I dont want to ruin the experience of the game. I played D&D over 15 years ago and loved the Role playing. I joined DDO because it was free but quickly became a VIP because I loved it so much.
I would love to find a group that does what you described. Taking time to enjoy the game..
Please let me know what guilds offer this..
Thanks...

Well Seiren already pointed to us earlier in the thread but here's a link to The Doom Brigade guild site. (http://www.thedoombrigade.eu)
We are not actively recruiting currently except on the EU side but I am sure we can make exceptions if suitable applicants appear :)

I am looking for a guild kinda like what is being described here. I am a low level Ranger and this is first foray into online gaming I played D&D as a kid but that was 15-17 years ago. I am looking for what the rest of you sound like you want, a group that goes through quesst slowly and soaks it all up. I would also like to make a friend or two along the way. If any of you find a guild like we are want please post it up.
Thanks

Well you lot are welcome to take a look @ http://spellbinders.mmoguildsites.com
we are a fairly large guild with approx 10-33 players depending on the time of day ...
we have players from us, gb, dk, sw, no, sa and many other places ... so you can log on nearly at all times and find a guildie... Majority are tough from the GMT timezones (+/- 2) but we have seen up to and about 33 players online at once.
The gaming style are very different from player to player ... some tend to use that "forward pressing finger", others just use autorun ... but we also have some who wan't to do static groups, raids and whatnot...
We do tend to have a great social aspect and try to focus on that alot.... specifically roleplay are perhaps abit low...
We have 2 generel rules
1. have fun
2. register online
and use forum
if you got questions post them to me in mail or find us 'binders via "who" list ingame...
cya around...

Hey Firesnakearies77!!
I read your post, and my guild agrees with much of what you are typing about. Granted, the ninth time I go through Waterworks, I'll be going relatively quickly unless someone requests that we slow down and enjoy the text during chat.
When we are exploring and doing new quests, we definitely tend to enjoy the stories presented. A recent expample that I can remember is our foray into the Vale of Night pre-quests which have a hilarious story line, if you have never been.
You are welcome to come check out Covenant of the Phoenix. We are a multi-game guild with an emphasis on sharing, helping out the new recruits, no-drama leadership, and most importantly, having fun. We are averaging ten to fifteen active members in our DDO chapter, House Phoenix and are looking to grow. There is opportunity for advancement if you are into responsibilities. We feature a 400 person vent server which services our guild chapters spanning a wide variety of games. Here is a link to our website (http://covenantofthephoenix.com/forums/index.php).
To apply for membership, click on the forums button on the left-hand side, click on recruitment, read the sticky and post a reply.
Thanks for your time!!

Definitely have the same sentiments. I end up soloing almost all of my quests especially the first time through, but I know once I get to the higher lvls I probably won't be able to do that. If you start a guild or find a guild in line with what you posted, please post what it is.

I would very much like a guild like this. I haven't found one yet that is relaxed enough, and rp's at the same time. Please post what you find or make.
I will be checking into the doom brigade.
I have 2 personalities at this time. A sorcerer and a monk. Both level 4. Morog and Yuen Wo. We are into light RP and slow and enjoyable gamming. We mostly play on Sunday evening (CST) for an hour or two. I am also a bit on the older side of life and prefer to game with mature gammers. I rarly bother with web sites, because mine time is spent ingame and there just isn't enough time to be posting there as well.
Keep us informed.

Sounds exactly what I am looking for as well.
I have played pnp AD&D for many years, and quite enjoined the extreme roleplaying banter that we had during our gaming sessions. We not only played our chars, we were are chars, which actually but much more depth into
roleplaying. Still remember my half-orc barbarian, who was soooo strong, but soo extremely dumb. Our wizard
in the party duping him to do that or the other, and I had to do it since he was sooo stupid.
Anyway, I would love to join a guild who does that kind of roleplaying, where leveling is secondary to adventuring, and I live in the EU region.
Am quite new with the game and getting acquainted with it, and have a dwarf cleric and an elf wizard.

Seems that some like-minded people are looking for a home in here...
Doom Brigade might indeed be something that you are looking for. We were founded in September and have now 50+ members divided roughly half between US an EU. We encourage RP but are not serious about it, so guild chat has OOC discussions as well as some RP. We do organise PVE runs that are lighter on RP, but often also pure RP groups where OOC discussions are avoided. In all our exploration we avoid rushing and try to value traditional dungeon crawls and taking our time - smelling the roses so to say (and often a lot of sewage under Stormreach as well).
We don't have strict rules about attending the forums or such, but we'd like to get a registration and an application post there to get to know newcomers and to see that you are serious about joining us. It would be nice to keep in touch with others through forums in the future as well, but at least through registration we manage to keep tabs on how many members we have (most all have many characters to be able to group on different levels).
I don't think we have many players under age of 30, I'd guess our median age is close to forty since in the upper ranges it goes to some over 60. So, we are often quite mature (or at least should be :)) and casual.
We are looking for more people to share the fun with us, so check our guild site at www.thedoombrigade.eu or if totally allergic to forums then get in touch with one of us in the game, and we'll quest with you!

Awesome, the description sounds like what I am looking for. I started playing AD&D back in 1982 and enjoy the RPG aspect, and working with a group. I have been a member of DDO for a couple of months (have a 4th level thief) and every group I have joined, it is a race to see who can get to the end. My thief is left in the dust because I am searching for traps, or secret doors, etc. Plus I my character has been killed several times because half the group has run off and left the rest of us. My thief is a thief, not a toe to toe fighter, although she can hold her own against all but overwhelming odds. Anyway glad there are others out there who are of the same mind set... Glad to meet you all...
LOL I was complaining about no one RP'ing in a couple of other threads...and of course got shot down by some of the posters...
