View Full Version : Autotarget change in 10/1 Patch

Previously you'd auto-soft target the nearest thing to you, without it being directly under the mouse pointer. This was very handy for quickly picking up items & using various objects like switches by just hitting 'E'. However, post 10/1, it now seems like you must have the mouse cursor over the items for you to be able to use them.

Is there a way to enable the old behavior?

Now I have to point directly at something, let it sit there pointed at it for about a half a second, without moving, and then click the mouse button. Pressing "E" will attempt to do something to whomever it is I have targetted, as well as pressing the mouse button if I haven't been sitting there with the pointer over the item on the ground, for that half second.

It worked much better prior to the patch. I don't mind having to take a half sec to pick up a collectable, but it's terrible when trying to pick up soul stones.

Yes, I noticed this as well but I think pressing "U" still works when you're over or near the item... does this solve your issue?

On a whim, try changing your "tool tip delay" to be longer and see if your pick up time actually gets longer as well. 1/2 second sounds like the default time for the tool tip delay which is why I ask.

Tried this, it's got the same problem, you have to have the mouse over the item to get it to be a soft target before E or U will work.

I have not noticed this myself when using the traditional backspace.

HOWEVER, I have noticed that if something is covering the object in question, hotbar, transparent chat window, old loot table from a chest, etc. you can not acquire target acquisition.

So this just suddenly fixed itself, no idea why. I was going through some characters on different servers & then all the sudden noticed it was working like it did in the past, I noted all the ui settings to copy them to my main character, but then when I logged him in, everything was back to normal. Code Gnomes? =)

Edit: Hmmm and now it's back to not working again. Odd, odd indeed.

I have the same issue and can't get it sorted. It is extremely annoying to stop and loot items that drop from barrels etc where normally you could loot while moving.

Strangely it works fine with 1 of my characters but the other one refusus to loot items unless I am hovering over the item I wish to loot and then wait till the little hand appears. Only then does interact actually work.

Anyone have any advice or suggestions please?

I can still loot on the run by hitting 'Q' (targets nearest interactable item) then 'E' (picks it up).

I've gotten it down so holding 'w' I can buzz an item quickly q-e without stopping and move on my way :)

It is kinda fun in Kobold assault once the treasure bags are everywhere to run through them and spam q-e to pick them up really fast. :)

Small bit of a workaround if you're having problems with auto-target, but after getting used to it I'm now faster picking up this way than with the old.

Thanks Dcurd, I will try this and see if I can cope with it. My main problem is the fact that I can not loot on the run but if this works then I should be ok until a solution for this can be found.

Ok I found the cause of the problem. If you press 'G' then you can enable or disable autotarget. With auto target it will target the loot as you press enter without you even noticing it and this enables you to loot on the run. With it disabled you have to actually hover over the loot or lever.

Press G in game to see for yourself or toggle auto-targetting is what you need to look for in key mapping if you bound G to something else.

I hope this helps.
