In ETK the dungeon is not scaling properly. I have run this quest at least 2 dozen times and have never seen problems like this. W T H do you guys find the need to nerf an already difficult quest. We were getting hit with cometfalls for over 350 points of damage a hit. All the while the named Kobald is floating around way up in the air. I cant tell you how much i would like to cuss and tell you guys exactlly what I think of you, but it wouldnt help your ability to think at all. That quest was hard enough on hard and elite. Now its harder on normal than it use to be on elite. I took a screen shot of the Kobald flying around up in the air(see below). And just FYI we even had a member in the party quit the game again because of his absolute discust at you people. Why nerf a quest that wasnt broken? And you guys think we can run this over and over for the essenses to open SOS? RIDICULOUS!! You guys never cease to amaze me with your never ending cluelesness. The only thing I can think is you purposly screw up these quests so players will have no choice but to fail or keep buying Spirit Cakes and mana potions from the store. WEAK! Thanks a lot for ruining the quest and I guess I can kiss my Dragontouched armor goodbye. Thanks a lot Turbine!!! Every time you try and make improvements you set yourself back with dumba$$ stuff like this. I have been playing for over 3 years and have NEVER been this angry at you guys before. I wish I could call and yell at someone but all of us players know you have NO customer support, so whats the point?

Im sure I misspelled a lot more that that lol. I'm sure I came off like quite the d*** but my frustration level is through the roof. Sorry to all the players who read this. I love the player base here and have nothing but respect for all of you, and especially the ones in my group who stuck it out to get it done. No ones fault but Turbines and to the players, please dont take offense to this post. It is directed at Turbine alone.

This quest does seem pretty ridiculous. It's not even the kobold that keeps wiping us, it's the living spells.
My bard/rogue has a +33 reflex save and evasion, and gets faceplanted by a single living spell in just a couple seconds, due to the insanely high DC of their spells, and the insane rate at which they can cast. They're just mowing down the entire party, with DBF and meteor swarms hitting for 200-350 per shot.
As a "test", I tried to toss fascinate at one, to see if it would work. Before I could even finish fascinate I was dead, hit by 5 DBFs in the time it took for fascinate to cast (save, hit for 100, save, save, hit for 150). That's an absolutely ludicrous casting speed.
This quest seems incredibly buggy to me.
<edit>: This is on normal, btw, not even hard or elite.

The comet fall doesn't have a save on the bludgeon portion anymore which alone will hit you for 250+. I don't know if this is intended but it doesn't seem to match the spell description:
You conjure a bright, glowing comet, which appears in midair above your target, then strikes the ground with tremendous force. This spell does 2d6 points of bludgeon damage for every 2 caster levels. A successful Reflex save reduces the damage by half. The force of this comet can knock some creatures prone.
EDIT: Seems this problem may have been caused by the addition of Meteor Swarm which is very similar with no save on the bludgeon.

1d6 per caster level, effectively, and they're hitting for 250+ damage? Even assuming they're using both Maximize AND Empower, they'd still have to be around 40th level casters to be generating that much damage.
I stand by my belief that this quest is bugged. A CR 18 mob should not be throwing 300+ damage spells at a rate of one per second. There is literally no defense against that. You could go in with fire resist-30, the 33% reduction boots, 200pts of fire protection, and you'd still die in seconds.
And the worst part about it is, there are MULTIPLE living spells in there. Not just a single one...

We did notice in the combat logs, it was the "Meteor Swarm hits you for 250 Bludgeon damage" and the like that was doing everybody in.
Either this is not working as intended (too high amounts, no saves, spam casting) or the mobs in tghe quest need rebalancing (1 of these improved lethality Living Spells instead of half a dozen of them + Red eles + 2 nameds)

I'm not sure you understand what "nerf" means. You definitely used it incorrectly.
also, where is this quest?

I did this on elite fairly recently, full party, with no issues. I think you're missing the fact that the meteor swarms have unavoidable bludgeoning damage, with which evasion will not help you.

I agree. I think the late night and irritation got the best of me for sure! Sorry for the name calling. Frustration was through the roof and I could have been a little more stratigetic with my words to get my point across. My bad for sure :(

All I have to say is... try hotbar consolidation. The number of hotbars with empty slots on your screen scares me. Perhaps if you didn't have so much clutter, you wouldn't get as frustrated?

I'm afraid the programmers are too accustomed to having their efforts made to look ridiculous by the playerbase and they sometimes overcompensate. My own group was owned by these oozes, earlier.
Turbine, you guys need to do something to defray the amount of frustration already accumulating in Reaver's Refuge that had already existed because of the nature of the Slot Machine reward offered in these quests.
You had enough new material without being excessive in your nerfs to characters in addition to your buffs of the mobs.

Out of curiosity, then, how exactly did you avoid the 250-300 damage no-save AE damage that the living spells were tossing around like peanuts at the circus? (On normal, no less, I imagine that on elite it would be even higher)
I got hit for 330 damage in there last night at 17th level. That was enough to put me at around -120 hp, from full health, in one shot, with no save or any ability to mitigate the damage.
Care to explain how your party did this "with no issues?" Is there some trick to it that the rest of us aren't aware of?
I think i have a better angle on that screenshot gruntis, which shows him hovering better. I will go see what i can find.
Can you believe when he levitated, i had to get the bow out and start shooting him with arrows. i mean me a ranger, using a bow for gods sake.
One way to handle the meteor storm is to open the door and take him for a hike up to the maze, he will follow you in and keep chasing you through it, but easy to avoid being hit, definately the topping with cheese but if you cant handle it, remove it. One could possibly do this with all spells and save themselves alot of issues.
Devs, i was toe to toe with the kobold, i used all the different angles to get him to hop away from obstructions during this fight. He leashed once in the lava at the bottom of the rocks, not far at all id have thought, and he was literally on some sort of crack. Bounced around after as little as one hit at times.

The only possible way of surviving the DBF and comet fall bludgeon damage is to be in constant motion away from where they hit. As the attack take time to get to your location, if you have moved away from it, no dmg.
This can be seen quite often by clerics casting cometfall at a moving target. The spell hits where the mob was when you started casting. I often see mobs avoid dmg by doing this. The same should be the case for us.
Of course, saying that, it means someone has to get the mob agro and run them around while the mellee get a free righn on the kobold and effrit.
