View Full Version : Is it really that hard to read?

Sorry, but I have to rant…..

Why do people join a group for a “pay only” quest when they are F2P when in the LFM it is clearly stated that it is a “pay only” quest? Why do people ask “What Quest?” when the quest is stated in the LFM?

Do people even read the descriptions in the LFM’s anymore?

Why can’t quests that people haven’t purchased be blocked from joining, like the snowy side of Korthos is?

If is so frustrating to show a person how to get to a quest just to have them finally get there and then declare “But I can’t run this, it says I have to purchase it!”

It would make is easier for everyone, VIP and F2P alike, to have a filter of some kind that would prevent people from joining groups for quests that they can’t run.

Until then, if ever, please….pretty please, read the LFM descriptions.

Cheers!

I guess our new population will take some time to adapt to DDO's grouping system.

What I find perplexing is that F2P accounts read a huge sign that says BUY NOW when the name of a P2P quest is selected on the lfm panel.

One issue is sometimes the quest name differs depending on how people refer to it. Some people refer to the quest with the "guys(forget his name) missing pack" and sometimes they refer to it by the dungeon its in. I think that is the biggest reason there is alot of confussion about what is what. Quests and dungeon names are intermingled for the same "reference."

I have seen this! ALOT of ftP don't refer to the QUEST, but the dungeon. Maybe it is something they see and we do not.

When you actually select the quest from the quest list doesn't the name appear the same for everyone? How can F2P get confused?

All it takes is a second to read the LFM.

Yes.

We have a LOT of illiterate gamers in the world. I'd guesstimate around 70% of gamers either cannot read, or have what I call "Don't Care"-itis, a swelling of their "Apathy Gland", whichever one that is.

I myself cannot read nor type. I am beyond functionally illiterate, and am in fact a dysfunctional illiterate. I rely on my Helper Monkey, Alphonso, to help me communicate in any text based medium. He reads the posts, and then pantomimes the content to help me understand... which is really adorable since he wears a funny little hat. I tell him what I would type if I only could - he then jabs at the letters on the keyboard until the post is worded to his satisfaction. I just have to trust the little guy that he's communicating what I want him to. I can't tell because humans are non banana eating stupid heads with no tails who don't even know how to use sticks to get to the tasty ants.

Yeah, Alphonso is my best friend.

Evidence of being hard to read.

Typical call for my job.

Dr. "I tested this person on the computer and we reached the end of the test and it is asking for a password. Do you know what it is?"
Me "zzz"
Dr. "That works. So is that written anywhere?"
Me "Quickstart Guide, page 9, under, "How to exit an On-screen Administration"?"

I remember back when....2006, 2007....

same arguements...people not reading lfms...not putting them up right.

As far as I know, no game has such a built in mechanic like this LFM/LFG thing...at least nothing working very well.
New people come in..lots of kids too, and they just spam the join/group thing with no knowledge or reading ability and annoy everyone.

this just means a lot of people are on the server.

and that is good.

we all just forgot how to deal with those things....lol

I do notice that clicking on some of the dungeons the actual quest name comes up for them even though the dungeons name is vastly different, so some do not pay attention. I noticed this as a F2P customer and as a currently VIP customer. So basically part of the issue is not just "new people" but how the quests and dungeons are named. And part of it is that some probably do not unclick the filter for show "Content I do not own." or "Quest I do not qualify for."

Ha! I eat bananas all the time!!

The rest of it, though, is spot-on.

The best thing to do is add "Send Tell" to your LFM message, and then decline everyone who doesn't. Easy peasy.

Taking a moment to read can prevent larger problems from occurring later.

By the way, I realize that had sarcasm, but I like making ridiculous lists with only a single bullet point. :)

The thing that I don't like about BAM is all the dungear (sp?) and the retardedly long tunnel you have to run through to get to the end fight.

So in a way I see your point. I don't really know why Turbine would do such a thing. It really reeks of a money grab to me.

I think one of the issues may be.. long time players like myself that have gone F2p refer to certain quests by names different than that listed on the LFM panel.

How many new players know what bonebite hideout is?

Granted, you don't have to pay for that one, but say I listed steamtunnels.

You and I know what it means, but a new player has no idea that its STK, or what STK means, or that you have to buy it.

The suggestion of using the quest name so that a F2P person sees the correct quest name, and the option to BUY it if they don't have it, is the best way to go.

I agree it's frustrating how some people seem oblivious to even the simplest instructions and am in complete agreement with this request for people to Read the descriptions.

However I'd like to point out there is a filter on the LFM window to not show content you haven't purchased. also any content you haven't purchased has a big BUY NOW banner by it (assuming a quest is actually selected)

However there are 2 problems with this. One on the F2P players side and one on the Party Leader's side

1. It requires the F2P person to read the screen and select the check mark to filter unpurchased content. Which brings us back to people who seem to expect everything done for them.

2. People posting LFMs rarely (in my experience) actually select a quest, but rather just put the name of the quest in the comment box. Since no quest is selected it shows up regardless of the filter being checked and no BUY NOW banner alerting the new player.

Still both of those could be overcome by, as you stated, reading the description.

My biggest annoyance is LFMs that have no description and no quest selected, and a level range of 1-20...I can only assume these are created by new players who haven't bothered to figure out how the LFM window works.

My favorite groups are the ones that are 2 levels on average above the quest but insist on not letting some one a little lower than them in, especially someone who knows the quest. I wasnt let in on a WW Hard at level 3 yesterday cuz I wasnt level 4-6.

I asked the Party Leader why, he said I would be too gimp. So I bet him 1K PP that I would solo it on Hard faster then his group. I wasnt trying to be an uber dillweed, but to prove a point, that it takes all types of toons to get a job done and that you can be a lesser level but your skill can make you valuable as well.

I never collected that 1k PP. But I was finished before the got to Part 3, oh well.

For you new peeps, it sometimes pays off to take a risk or two when forming a group. A FS or a Bard can heal a group that is level appropriate in most cases, if the tanks are properly geared and dont aggro the entire zone.

The folks who have been around a while have made a living off of shortmanning these quests. One reason is because we had to. The second reason is because we could.

Actually if you construct your LFM to read the proper quest, there is a huge "BUY IT NOW!@!! OMG!! TURBINE POINTS" message where the levels range otherwise sits.

From a F2P's viewpoint I must say this game is very generous with Turbine Points and it's actually perfectly possible that a new player may have enough to buy the pack after joining your group.

I've been playing since 10th September and have bought two adventure packs (Tangleroot Gorge and Catacombs) with 213 points unspent.
