New player here, joined a team doing quests outside Korthos village for the first time today, and I had a tough time telling which quest they were going to from the map, and where the entrance was located, at least till I got close enough to see it with the character. Then I had a hard time telling who was inside and who was outside the quest, or even if people were in different ones.

What am I missing in the UI?

Well, first, if you joined through the LFM panel, hopefully the name of the quest was listed. Otherwise, just ask them.
Usually you need to know by yourself where the entrance is located (there are maps floating around, e.g. on the wiki - link in my sig), though they recently added to the map some kind of flashing arrow that might help (I'm actually not sure about that, I didn't really pay attention).

To see who's in quest:
- either an LFM is up, and you can mouse over it to see the players and their locations
- otherwise, your only option is to find the players through the Who tab of the social panel
- of course you can also count the dots in your current instance ;)

I guess some low level groups are a bit disorganized, but later on, typically eveyone knows which quest the group is doing, and the leader will either ask people to know their way or offer to guide them (make sure you ask for help if you don't know where to go, nothing more frustrating than waiting 10 mins for someone who finally asks "where's the quest plz?"...)

but turbine has made it ezer for the new people now. just have your map up and go to your quest journal and highlite or double click on the quest you are looking for , when you do that an arrow apears on your map where that quest is. I thnk you have to be in the general area for this to work ie harbour. market or house ne ways good luck and it won't be long and you will no where everything is ne ways :)

first step is always to know what the party are doing, either from the LFM screen or from party chat when u join if the info wasnt on the LFM screen. next up is converting that info into something you understand, if they say "WW" then its "water works", plenty of new acronyms to learn :)

then you gotta find the quest giver and the quest entrance. luckily in the harbour you can grab most of the quests from the two taverns. which just leaves one last problem...

my first impression of the harbour map was "omg, soooo many quest icons!"

trying to find the quest entrance you need can be a little overwhelming at first. you can try following the blue dots, i think its now a bit better when someone is inside a building. mostly if you cant find the quest on the map, then just ask. a lot of it will come down to remembering the quest and which one is which.

later on a good map showing you where to go over hostile lands is very useful (ie the wiki ones for adventures starting in a wilderness), but for the moment most of your quests will be entered from town.

I did notice flashing checkmarks for my quest entry doors when I was solo and running stuff in Korthos village, but didn't see that for quests outside the village solo or teamed. And unfortunately I had a rather silent team, including the leader, as I rarely got a response when I asked where they were. Though at least they were patient as I lost them once again inside the quest and they had to wait for my rogue to track them down to disable traps or open doors a couple of times.

Sounds like you just have to either memorize where to find things or use the maps I found on the wiki. I'll probably be using the latter, as I have a terrible memory for visual landmarks. In 5 years of playing another MMO, I never managed to memorize a single map, including ones I saw at least 40 times, sigh. It was easier there, though, to tell whether someone was in the same instance as you and what direction they were as you could "target" them through walls and at any distance, so I thought I was missing something here.
