Hi, I have a fresh lvl3 human Cleric and after reading some posts, I'm thinking about rerolling already.
My initial stats are - 13 10 10 8 17 14 - my initial feats were Mental Toughness and Spell Penetration, and at 3rd I picked Improved Turning.

My toughts were to have a non-useless melee but mostly caster and decent turning cleric. Turns out I discovered Turn Undead is pretty useless after a few lvls if you are not fully turn-dedicated and looking at some builds here I saw a tendency to higher CON and lower DEX. But won't a negative DEX mod subtract from AC? I can see I will be exchanging 1 AC for 20 hp on the long run, but will that really make a diference in the end?

Finally, I thought I could MAYBE still use this build if I put a Paladin lvl to use CHA in smite, but I just noticed my alignment is True Neutral, don't ask me, I don't know why the hell I did that. Is it still possible to get a Pally lvl if I'm not lawful? Even if I'm still able to get it, will it be worth to keep this build?

And last, about skills, is UMD useful for a cleric? Is it necessary?

Thanks and keep in mind I don't have access to 32pt build yet.

1. 1 AC or 20 HP won't make a difference at all to Clerics. Especially if you're a rear-line healer type.

2. No, you must be lawful good to take a level of Paladin. But your CHA isn't wasted, since you can use it for DVs. Way more useful than Turns anyway IMO. So yes, keep your build.

3. I'm sure you can find many uses for UMD on a Cleric, but its not a "must have" by any stretch. And I don't think its worth the investment in skill points.

There are enhancements that let you use turn undead for healing others, restoring power to others and doing damage instead. Turn undead isnt great for turning undead but is quite useful for party support.
