Wha..?? Interesting combo, not one I would suggest for a new player, but hey, to each his own. I'm sure someone could think of a way to make it work, but I wouldn't suggest it for a couple reasons:

1) Rangers and Bard's are based on 2 different main stats for spell casting. (Rangers are wisdom, Bards are charisma)

2) To get effective Bard spells you would need to minimize your ranger levels and vice versa. And neither of the spells from the min class are going to do your much good. If you split it 50/50 you will be good at neither.

Just my opinion, by no means saying it can't be done.

I myself contemplated a 12 ranger 8 bard build for self haste but really I would only ever do this for role play purposes. I also contemplated a 1 bard/x ranger that minimized intel but really you would need so much intel for umd, perform, balance, spot and jump that it is better just to go with the rogue level. Going both rogue and bard will overstretch your skill points if you want a high perform.

As MissErres said, I wouldn't recommend it for a new player, and I don't roleplay so I wouldn't just confine it to RP only.

My main is a WarTempest (8 Bard Warchanter/ 12 Ranger Tempest) build and it's a pretty awesome combo.

I have Ranger and Bard spells, Bard Songs, plus I can party buff, self buff, self heal, wand heal, haste and I'm still effective as a front line fighter. I can even whip out arcane or divine scrolls for even more usefullness.

My advice, is wait till you can do it as a 32 pt build, and have some tomes and decent gear handed down from a high level character.
