Hello Everyone,

I am fairly new to the game and went VIP b/c I am having so much fun. I am a level 7 Cleric and want to multiclass to use more weapon types - especially Longsword and Axe b/c of Dwarven axe bonuses and I hear there are some killer longswords later in the game.

My main question is what are the differences in the three options. I am more along the lines of Melee capable Cleric. Also will I get the use of axe and longsword when I muliclass or will I have to train them independently? I know there are other threads about these types of things but I haven't found any that specifically answer these questions. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Best,

Krakenhead

most battle clerics will take 2 lvls of fighter for the extra feats.

I generally think that's a good idea - take one of them at low to medium level, and one at very high level (say at 19 or 20). 2 Fighter levels also gets you access to a +1 Str enhancement.

However, another alternative if you have a solid Charisma score is to take 2 Paladin levels - no feats, but significant boosts to all saves. Or you can go Clr19/Bbn1 for the speed boost you get for a Barb level, plus a weak rage when out of mana; or you can go Ranger1 or 2 for the various low-level Ranger free feats.

You will automatically gain proficiency with all martial weapons (which is most weapons in the game) by taking any of those classes. If you want to use Khopeshes, Bastard Swords, Dwarven Axes or some other weapons, you'll need to spend an additional feat on them after taking your melee class level. (Dwarves treat dwarven axes as battleaxes, however).

So if I understand this correctly : Dwarves will not have to use an additional feat to use Dwarven Axes? So if I train a Fighter level I just go to Fighter Trainer and Multi and Then back to Cleric trainer next time I level correct?

BTW thanks for the great information.

you can't multi paladin unless you're lawful good
you can't multi barbarian if you're lawful

Dwarves doesn't automatically use Dwarven Axe for free -- they just treat Dwarven Axe as Material Weapon. So if you are a Dwarven Cleric (pure), you only access to simple weapon proficiency so you still have to spend a feat on Dwarven Axe (just like spend a feat to use Longsword, or Greataxe, or Greatclub, or any other material weapon) in order to use it without penalty (hint: you can still use them but taking penalty).

On the other hand, if you splash any class which could access material weapon for free ( i.e. Fighter, Paladin, Barbarian, Ranger ), then as a Dwarf you can use Dwarven Axe without spending extra feat (since you didn't treat it as exotic weapon like other race do)

As for your second question, yes, you can choice any class every time you level up in any order (as long as you do not exceed the DDO_three_class_limitation and the class you want to train up wasn't against your alignment). However the order may affect your skill point and sometimes, the feat available for selecting)
