My friend just took over mantle of DM when my homebrew came to a good stopping point. He's been working hard putting maps, encounters, etc. into MapTool to play a game mostly visually oriented on a big-screen LCD. We're playing a dungeon called Castle Whiterock, which should get us from 1-15/16. I recommend this dungeon and playstyle to anybody. It's a lot of work for the DM to program all the maps into MapTool, but man is it fun!

It kind of looks like Castle Greyhawk. That too had a whole series of adventures and took you through many levels.

Is this some type of visual aid for pen and paper D&D?
I would love to have some type of program that I could make maps on and modify monsters (ex, giving them celestial, fiendish templates, etc).
Anyone know of such a program(s) and their link(s)?
I dunno if this is what you are talking about, but its what I think about whne I read it.

A buddy of mine used MapTools on a story arc that originally came out of either Dungeon or Dragon. I can not for the life of me remember what the story arc was, but it was the same type of thing where it took you from 1st to 18th or so. He said MapTools was a huge bonus for doing some of the larger maps, and he could project them and everything.

MapTools looks interesting. I will have to look into that.
There are alot of great story arc settings out there now. The one campaign I ran I used the prequel to the Greyhawk wars, Dragon Mountain and Ravenloft Grand Conjunction story arcs together into one setting. It worked great and when it came time for the Greyhawk Wars we used Warmaster miniatures instead of the counters they gave you with the set.

Haven't talked about Dragon Mountain in years! So complex but so beautiful. Played it a million times but never made it through... I was like 12 then with my group. Inferna was the most AWESOME red dragon ever tho. Her horde was nice, but being a greedy 12yo player, I thought it could've been bigger... not that I ever really got to see it :D

That was a great quest. They way I ran the story it took our players about 6 months of gaming to reach the mountain because I would only drop hints about it during each module I ran. So by the time they got there it was epic for them. Something they have been hearing about of months of playing.
