I know I saw this information before, but now that I am searching for it I cannot find it. If anyone can answer or point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it.

I am building a wizard and am looking for the automatic feats that they get so I do not accidentally double up and cause some sort of conflict.

Thanks in advance.

You do not get automatic feats. You get free Meta magic feats at 1,5,10,15,20. Click the compendium button at the top of the page and you can preview classes and see what feats you can add.

Thanks for the replies.

Maybe I used the wrong word. I was under the impression that at 1, 5, 10, 15 and 20 the wizard got meta magic feats by virtue of being a wizard; still allowing us to choose feats separately. Is this what you mean by free? Or does it work differently?

Every single race/class combination gets feats every 3 lvls. So: 1,3,6,9,12,15,18 are when anyone gets feats. On top of that, certain races/classes gain bonus feats. Being a human gets you 1 bonus feat at first lvls, a fighter gets a bonus feat at every even numbered fighter lvl and at 1, and wizards gain a bonus metamagic feat every 5 lvls, as mentioned above. Thus, a Wizards gains a choosable feat at lvls: 1,1,3,5,6,9,10,12,15,15,18,20.

So they are all chosen. I know Rangers get specific feats at certain levels independently of the chosen ones and I was under the impression that the Wiz meta magic feats worked the same way.

Thanks.

Not quite,

As said above, you get feats of which you can choose anything you like (including metamagic feats) are at level 1, 3, 6, 9, 12, etc. The bonus feats for the wizard class you get at 1, 5, 10, 15, 20. These HAVE to be what are called Metamagic feats (i.e. they provide bonuses to your spells at the cost of increase SP per cast).

Now while the metamagic feats can be taken at 1, 3, 5, 6, 9, 10, 12, 15, 18, 20, you cannot select a "normal" feat at 5, 10, 15, 20 (which is when you HAVE to choose a metamagic feat).

Note that unless you're up for some feat respec later, you probably don't want to pick many metamagic feats in your "normal" feats (at levels 1,3,6,9,12,15,18).
The 7 metamagic feats are: extend/maximize/empower/heighten/quicken/enlarge/eschew materials. You can get 5 of these from L1 to L20 as your bonus class feats. Eschew is not so great, so you probably shouldn't pick more than 1 metamagic feat as normal feat (and get the others in your bonus class feats).

Is Greater Spell Focus one of the bonus feats which the Wizard class gets at levels 1, 5, 10, 15, and 20? I know Spell Focus is! Ty.

Wizard bonus feats can also be Mental Toughness, Improved Mental Toughness, Augment Summoning, or Spell Focus (school).

Basic Wizard feat selection layout...for me anyways....

Lvl 1 Insightful Reflexes
Lvl 3 Toughness
Lvl 6 *Heighten
Lvl 9 Power Attack......sub in *Mental Toughness is you don't care about melee capabilities.
Lvl 12 *Spell Focus...ur choice of school
Lvl 15 Spell Penetration
Lvl 18 Greater Spell Penetration

Bonus Feats
Lvl 1 *Extend
Lvl 5 *Maximise
Lvl 10 *Quicken
Lvl 15 *Greater Spell Focus....match to original spell school.
Lvl 20 *Empower

Just a basic rundown....of course u can take them in different orders.......feats with * are eligible to be taken as a bonus feat.
