Verification sought: Med Mithral armor

Just saw a loadscreen tip that said bards dont suffer arcane spell failure in light armor... first i didn't know this and got irritated that i had spent an AP on arcane fluidity... then the gears started rolling....

Does a piece of medium armor- made of mithral (and thusly counting as light armor)- fall under this rule? Or will i still suffer ASF in this particular armor?

If i had some medium mithral lying around I'd simply test it but that's not a luxury i have at the moment.

If someone could verify, either way, I'd greatly appreciate it.... also if you're on khyber and simply want to donate some medium mithral armor for testing send it to ALFEI :)

Yes, mithril light armor = no spell check

a mithral breastplate is light and therefore will not have asf for a bard, though you will have asf on arcane scrolls as your bardic light-armor-benefit does not apply to scrolls.

A bard will consider medium mithril armor (such as a mithril breastplate) as light armor for spellcasting. Thus, medium mithril armor will impose no Arcane Spell Failure on bardic-cast spells.

A bard will not get spell failure for Mithral Breastplate, Chainmail, or Scale Mail as they are reduced from being Medium to Light.

However any scrolls you use will still be subject to Arcane Spell Failure, so going with a low ASF solution may not be bad.

Personally, I don't like this tip in the first place, as it leaves out 2 things.

1. You will still suffer ASF on scrolls.
2. You will still suffer from any ASF that your shield applies.

so, frankly the tip is actually wrong, because a bard, in light armor, with a shield will suffer ASF, and a bard, in light armor, using an arcane scroll will suffer ASF.

But yea, since Mithral lowers the category of armor by one degree (so does darkleaf), mithral "medium" armor (Chainmail, Breastplate, Scalemail, etc.) counts as light armor and does not apply its ASF chance for bards casting their spells.
