Hello all. I am back into DDO after a long break playing WoW. I restarted from scratch and have pally, a cleric, a wizard and now would like to try out a rogue. (After seeing how needed rogue skills for parties)

I was planning on trying out a pure rogue build and the one in the newbie suggestion forums looked decent enough.

My question is, will this be a good enough build to level up? I dont mind re rolling, but would love to know ahead of time pitfall to avoid. (I rerolled once due to putting points into bluff instead of diplomacy)

Also How gear dependent will this build be? My cleric is level 6 and has saved a little bit of rogue specific stuff, but nothing too major obviously.

Thanks in advance!

That's definitely a viable build. You can argue minor changes in ability scores (I'd go 14 int, 14 str) but in the end, it won't matter much.

Yes, it's going to be fairly gear dependent but all dex rogues are gear dependent. Your damage comes from your SA so you'll want gear that increases SA damage AND gives you the chance to get SA's when fighting toe-to-toe with an enemy (which happens WAY more than you'd think, even in a group, spamming diplo). You're also going to have low hp and will want the gear to maximize them.

The toughest levels for this build will be 8-12. You'll suck against undead, constructs, and elementals and soloing in the mid levels will be a chore. Once you get Assassin II, you can effectively solo slayer areas for loot and XP if you are patient and play like a rogue. Levels 12-16 will be tough but the XP flies at that point so you'll be able to group and level fast. Your life will change when you make your first Radiance II weapon in the Shroud at around level 16. You'll feel like a god when you make your second.

EDITED: What server are you on? If it's Ghallanda, I'll help you out with some rogue gear.

I built this guy on Kyhber, but thank you very much for the offer. My highest level so far is a 6th cleric and i decided to make the rogue since the groups i was in couldnt find any. I also got a nice set of +3 studded and some short swords that were +3 and +2.

Alright, I have been leveling this build and am 1 rank from level 8. I have been choosing the enhancements that lean towards getting assassinate at lvl 6, however I have yet to get it. I have 3 unspent points right now and can get assassinte I in 2 ranks so level 8. Should I wait until i am closer to 12 and can get assassinate I then II??

I was thinking i should get Dexterity II with my next 4pts then Rogue Haste II then Cunning II and then work towards assassinate... thoughts?

Opinions may vary but I would say to wait untill you can get Assassin II and then get both I and II at that time. Until then, dont worry about getting enhancements that 'lean towards' getting assassin. Get what makes you a good rogue at your current levels and then reset your enhancements when you are ready for Assasin II.

(*cough* Rogue Haste II *cough*)

Cap Man's right. Assassin I is underwhelming. I would ignore it until you qualify for Assassin II and then get both. Assassin II is loads of fun if you like that style of gameplay (stealthing around, picking off targets, soloing for loot, etc...I love that stuff).

So which enhancements to take from 1 to 11?

Haste Boost for sure.
If you're running a lot of quests over your level or on Elite, take the trap skill enhancements.
Sneak Attack Training and Sneak Attack Accuracy
Subtle Backstabber

Heck, I'd even fool around with the companion enhancements. Maybe that would give you a chance to get some more sneak attacks when you solo. Since you're respecing all of these at level 12, there's no harm in experimenting.

Then, at 12, respec and pick up the prereq's for Assassin II. If you like to play like an assassin, you'll have a lot of fun with it. But the REAL fun starts with Assassin III!
