View Full Version : Download Question (Install executable?)

I have already spent 4 hours downloading the game files to my desktop and had the game installed and running last night. Unfortunately, I had an unrelated computer error and had to perform a system restore which was before I installed DDO. Luckily, the install files (7 different LARGE bin files) are still on my desktop. However, when I use the shortcut "ddohigh.exe" to install the game it wants to re-download those same large bin files.

My question is this, how can I get the game to re-install without having to download the 7 large bin files all over again?

Is there a simple install launcher (other than "ddohigh.exe") that will use my existing bin files to install the game?

Thanks for your time.

I'm facing the same issue. it's ridiculous that the installer requires me to download the files all over again.

Really? There's not a way to avoid downloading again and keeping an old install file? I do that with my LotrO files everytime I format a computer.

Obviously no one cares so I'm, done with this game. Goodbye DDO.

Nothing? No help? No one knows?

Having the files bellow already downloaded helps nothing?
dndsetup-1.bin
dndsetup-2.bin
dndsetup-3.bin
dndsetup-4.bin
dndsetup-5.bin
dndsetup-6.bin
dndsetup-7.bin

This is unquestionably the most ******** instalation process I've ever seen. The downloader program gives me 2 options: A) delete and download again (which is stupid) or B) select a different directory to download (which is stupidier).

I posted a similar question (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=201975) and haven't received any response either. I'll probably bump my thread come Monday or maybe even later today but I find it odd at the lack of robustness in the abilities of the installer. Why wouldn't they build the installer with some extra scripting to allow for it to locate and use local files as long as they pass some sort of CRC check?

I'm no coder but I have been around MMO's a very long time and it would seem to me that if you can reasonably avoid more bandwidth drain, it makes for happier bean counters and happier consumers that don't by default enjoy huge unnecessary downloads.

Just saying...

I got all these bin files from a friend because I literally cannot download the files. I'm running Vista 32-bit, and every time it installs Pando Media Booster, I get a blue screen crash with a Physical Memory Dump. Then I have to reboot in safe mode and uninstall Pando just to stop my computer from crashing every time I start it up. I wish there was a way I could play DDO. All my friends are playing and they don't have this issue, and because my computer shuts down every time I run the downloader, I can't even troubleshoot it. It's like I'm the only on having this problem. If I could just bypass that heinous, garbage Pando app, I might be able to play this game, but until someone lets me know how to install DDO without crashing my PC, I guess I can't.

Same problem but on 64bit Win7. Still haven't been able to find a solution anywhere. :\

Looks like I can't play DDO and the only reason I can play LOTRO is that I have the original SoA discs (that just require a 6hr patch instead of a 7hr pando download that bluescreens and corrupts before it's finished.

I'm astounded that these games are successful in spite of using this atrocity for a DL and installation platform. Remember the Turbine Download Manager? Who'd of thought we'd long for THOSE glory days? :p

Sorry for the necro but this is apparently a problem that hasn't gone away in 2 years, although there hasn't been much said about it (according to google) :\

This isn't a wide-spread problem, localised to your computers.

Throwing tantrums on the forum won't help.

Reading/following the FAQ will.

Posting what you've tried and system specs/software will.

Opening a ticket will.

Help us help you!

if your friend has game installled just go to the game folder itself n put it all on a usb stick bring home put whole folder onto your pc n there all done its what i do at home when im reformatting my pc or the wife pc . o btw with this method u wont need to patch it will be patched already unless ur friend hast played in abit n game has had an update since last time he did

if ur usb stick (or use external hd, evryone should have one of these btw) is too small u separate the files n transfer peice by peice there no need to have pando n yh i hate that pando aswell

btw my pc has win7 64 bits n im not having probs but then i installed the game via method i just mentioned and dont have pando on my pc

Although some have had success with copying the installed folder rather than reinstalling DDO, it is never a good idea for it doesn't run pre- and post-installation tasks, such as checking/installing dependencies.

Once Pando ("ddohigh.exe") is finished downloading, you only need to keep the contentes of the "DDO High res install files" folder, which includes the *.bin files and dndsetup.exe. dndsetup.exe will launch the installation; ddohigh.exe will launch the downloader. Check, perhaps, your quarantine/anti-virus logs if your dndsetup.exe is missing.
