Banner ads in the forums. I mean you guys must be really desperate. A new low for this game, to be sure.

Godspeed.

What banner ads? (Firefox + adblock plus + no script).

You do realize the "Ad" is for....wait for it....

DDO.

My god, maybe next they'll add a flash ad in rotation for LotR...then it's REALLY Doom time

You weren't here for the multiple threads complaining that DDO didn't advertise, were you?

While I question the need for a banner ad for the product whose forums we are currently posting in, it's good to see DDO being advertised.

But yes, it is slightly annoying. Oh well, at least the ad is kinda cute.

Cross-Advertisement agreements do seem to be the potential for this (as its a rotational ad & so other sites featured should in turn be running the broccoli DDO Ad).

There still should be a feature for VIPs to turn the ads off in their USER CP.

It's good to see Turbine finally step up to the plate & actually advertise their game. That IS something we've been clamoring for, as Ciaran stated. It's sad they had to do it this way because Atari sat on their name and spung on the money pike til they bled dry.

Agreed. We should also be able to choose if we want the succubus to display at the top or the warforged, cleric, rogue, sorcerer, etc, etc.

Still can't believe they caved in on that one...

Are you talking about the NFL + JC pennys take a player to school ad at the top of this page?

Thats DDO?

Firefox is a good browser. It lacks most of the serious security leaks that internet explorer has (iframe exploit anyone? That one is currently causing massive damage around the interwebs). It also has a great addon system ... one of those addons is called "Adblock plus" and it blocks all ads. Voila, you don't need turbine to give you an option after all (Good thing too because they'd never consider wasting dev time on that when they can throw nerfs in the game instead)

And I happen to find the sudden influx of NFL ads to be... distasteful. Not doom-oriented, but what I personally like to see on a forum I visit.

Tolero said they were in the process with the ad company in charge of the banner ads to tweak them to be more aligned with what the audiance on this site may want to see - and it seems like they've just stuck the DDO vs. Broccoli ad, which I think is pretty funny btw, into perma-rotation. But it won't always be that way. The Devs sold us out, and I'm not thrilled with it.

All I ever see is the broccoli one. That said, I can't really fault the banner ads - it works. I've ended up at plenty of online games (Utopia, Tribal Wars, etc) solely thanks to Banner Ads.

I can handle a single banner Ad that doesn't measurably reduce my forum browsing/PC performance. If they start adding more ad space...then ya, I might reconsider.

Except some of us work in offices and read the forums on slow, rainy days like today and have to use IE because we don't have the rights to install Firefox on our PC's.

Yes, I need to get Firefox Portable and carry it around on a thumb drive. :o
