It's not possible. There is an anonymous option, but that only keeps your characters unassociated from your forum account name. There is a huge thread on this which also references a lot of the discussion already in place over at LoTR where the character visibility seems to have been in play for a while now.

You can take the Widget off the main page to make your characters immediately visible to people browsing your page - but there is no way to prevent people who do a character search from looking at your info.
