Hi all, is anyone else cancelling their account when this thing launches? It just makes fiscal sense to me what with all the TP I'll be getting, I should have enough to buy all the new content and such to continue playing as a F2P but not notice much of a difference from being a VIP. If not I might consider being a VIP again but we will see. Thanks Turbine, your game is still the best!
I don't believe you need to cancel. I would think you can just change your payment option to ftp. And no, I won't be doing that. VIP all the way.
/snip but not notice much of a difference from being a VIP. /snip
That is pretty subjective. I would say the loss of 6 character slots right off the bat is a pretty big difference to many of us. It would cost most of your "free" TP just to get them back active.
Umm is 2999 enough points to buy all the content and 6 slots? plus warforged and monk?
anyways staying vip

Its not even close. Heck, the shared bank slot is ~1000 TP by itself. The six character slots total ~1500 TP. Anyone with a lot of points has the favor for Drow, but Warforged and Monks have to be paid for. And the adventure areas.... Gianthold by itself is 900 TP. The other raids are 600-750pts.
Three thousand points is a nice start, but you'll need a lot more than that to get back to your current content.
And then there are the leveling sigils (those are still needed by the f2p players, right?)... I bet you need one to go from 16 to 17......

The shared bank is 1000 (500 less than in the beta, nifty), extra character slots are 600 each. So a total of 4600 to get the shared bank and extra slots. Then monks and warforged are another 900 or so.
I WISH character slots were only 250 each... :)
You need sigils as a free player, yeah, but you can get them as quest rewards. But you'd need one to go from 16 to 20, yes. Need a sigil (as a freebie) to unlock 17+.

There's been a few price lists floating about; I just lowballed the cost to show that even at the cheap end you aren't even close to being ready to convert to f2p without loss.

Not sure what the Store prices are for everything since they fluctuated constantly, but not everyone needs more than 4 slots. Further, there are many areas I would never visit: Necropolis comes to mind… so some of the older (and now nerfed) areas can be written off.
And as he is currently a subscriber he can level over without difficulty to 17 and then not need another sigil. Not that sigils were difficult to get on Lameia – 1 in 5 end rewards maybe? Easily 1 in 10, and you only need 1 every 4 levels or so…
Finally, with Drow and FvS favor unlocks, not everyone wants/likes Monks & WF…
Also, Favor = +TP as well, so you get some retroactive points there and can accumulate more. All that to say, with 3,000TP and maybe 1 month’s stipend you could easily play the best of the game at least until whenever they get around to releasing Update1.

Necropolis is free, afaik. The OP's post wasn't "you know, I don't need all this other stuff so I'll just go F2P". It was that his 3k points bought the equivalent of being a VIP. F2P is certainly a viable choice. It has to be, if this endeavor is going to be successful. But our free points are not making up the difference in content.
Besides, his sig is a warforged :P

As I said I am not sure the prices let alone what is and is not available ;)
It was more a general response address some of the issues raised.
As for the sig, none of my characters are even available for selection and the one that is, is not one of mine… but yes, he would have to purchase WF if he wanted to play that character.
Anyway, for someone wanting to go F2P, 3kTP is a great way to start!
