I get all geeked up this time of year, as it gets closer to week 1 of the NFL season. I thought I'd throw this server-wide proposal out there, to see if there's any interest.
I propose that we have a simple NFL survival pool with very useful prizes...large devil scales. The pool would work like this:
1) Everyone interested would have to pick the winner of one NFL game every week. This is straight winner only, no point spreads.
2) You can only pick a team once throughout the season. (i.e., if you pick the Packers over the Bears in week one and you survive, you can't pick the Packers to win in any other games for the rest of the season).
3) Single elimination -- if your team loses, you're done.
4) Picks must be made by midnight EST the day of the *first game for that week.* Failure to submit a pick is elimination, no exceptions. Be very careful here, as there are many Thursday games!!! Picks can be edited any number of times up to the same deadline.
(I suggest making a pick right after Monday Night Football so that you have something submitted, and you can edit it according to the rules above.)
5) Contingency picks are allowed. If you will be out of town or away from a computer, you can pick a few weeks at a time, so long as you don't pick the same week twice.
6) When the season is about to start, picks must be made in a thread (which I will start every week) in the "off-topic" subforum. No PM's to me, /tells or anything like that...if it's not in the thread, it doesn't count. As an aside, please don't post anything else in those thread besides your picks...I don't want to read through 3 pages of woofing and trash-talking to find someone's picks.
7) Woofing and trash-talking, not as excepted above, is accepted and encouraged. :)
Cost and Payouts:
1) Entry fee is one (1) large devil scale. Nothing else is accepted.
2) The winner (last one standing) will get 66% of the scales, and the runner-up receives 33%. Rounding done as appropriate. In the very unlikely event that there are two (or more) people remaining after week 17, the scales are divided equally between the survivors. We would have a /roll off if there is an odd number of scales issue.
3) The scales must be mailed or given to my main toon, Queazy, prior to week 1. If payment is not made by week 1, you can not participate.
4) If you don't trust me or think that I'd try to abscond with your scales, I would allow your guild leader to post into this thread and publicly vouch/co-sign for you. I'm not thrilled with this, but I figure that if I'd ask y'all to trust me, I should afford y'all the same courtesy.
Good luck! Hopefully we can get 15-20 people and the winner would get the scale equivalent of dual min 2's. That'd be a pretty nice deal!
Note: If this is somehow deemed inappropriate by Turbine or is a violation of the EULA in some way, then I'll forget about the whole idea.
Note 2: I will be out of town and away from my computer for the next few days, so I won't be able to answer questions/clarify things until I return 8/31. (I'll be in Vegas for my fantasy football draft. ;))
