For a long time my pure wizard was my best looter.. (I made him human and he's a 28 pointer from way back) Then I rolled up a tough guy cleric. My cleric is way more effecient at looting stuff. I go to various places with my 350 + hit points, lay down some max/emp blade barriers and chop things into little bits...the vale, desert, wherever... my cleric is just way better at it. each time through , the mobs are taking anywhere from 300 to 450 in damage...this is more of a brute force way to loot.
What i'm considering is making a wf wiz/rogue with insightful reflexes so that i can access some of the more tricky areas and chests... but maybe a cleric rogue may work too..
For me, looting is how I achieve some of the best fun in game. (it's like playing lotto)
What is your best looter build and why?
I'm a little worried that dungeon alert may ruin some of my fun
any suggestions on builds?
p.s. just looted my first ring of the ancestors after about 20 tries. i was super excited when i got it.
we call him hool lutehor.
bow before him for he is king of loot mongering chest pillaging, and raid plundering.

And here I was thinking what is our luckiest looter? And then maybe what they've looted?
Now I just go away.

My lvl 16 wizard in: the desert, from beyond the grave in delera's (not much work for two people (one caster and a speedy type), and the reaver's refuge areas (all three have some pretty easy loot run areas.
The caster rules for pulling good loot in these areas, plain and simple. Just be slow, bide your time and have a good spell selection for each area (firewalls and cloudkill in the desert, firewalls in pretty much anywhere)!

Everybody I know with a WF Sorc says it's the best solo-looting build.

CURRENTLY my AC rogue build for Monastery runs gives best chests&rewards/minute.
For the future, we shall see.

After 3 years playing, any caster is the best looter. Seems like on a melee type you end up with a bunch of rocks or scrolls. Raid loot again, casters prove luckier. My alt Taplin has the jungle cloak, titan belt, torq, dreamsplit, head of good furturne, madstone sheild, list go on and on.

My luck with any character is an absolute travesty, with one exception:
My Monk, Ipunchbabies, has some of the most remarkable luck of any of my characters. It comes in bursts.
I'd say that it's variable with everyone's account.
Edit: He's also my best loot run character at the moment, as he can handle more than my blaster can. His ability to outheal almost everything thrown at him is a pivotal asset, and he is rather well geared despite having only 1 greensteel equipment piece, at tier 2. He does take a little longer to take some things down, but he is far sturdier. As for Beholders... I prefer to consider those a *chore*, not a loot run(Orchard Beholder). The Monk fares factorially better in the Subterrane as well.

Ah if we are talking about loot luck, my long deleted, completely gimp, fighter/rogue/wizard had outstanding luck. I almost should have kept the abomination just for that fact, but.... ya it was pretty gimp.

My sorcs have been far and away my most prolific looters (not that I loot much on anything) but WHAT they pull almost always sucks. Hide or scale armors. Cloaks. Shields of stability. You get the idea.
My other characters, even the ones that can solo loot runs fairly well, seem to have a slightly higher chance of pulls with plat value. Thing is, they take over twice as long to cover the same amount of territory, and it's definitely not twice the plat value. Besides, it's more work to cut through the chaff with them.

I tend to be able to solo loot best with my wizzies. Sorcs have their advantages, but the lack of flexibility in spell selection stunts them in terms of solo-ability in my eyes. It isn't that they can't be excellent solo-ers, but I think their options are a bit thinner.
Many folks will say WF for a soloing caster, but I prefer drow or elf with umd to wand whip. The extra intelligence really helps with the DCs.

Have to agree Kal my wizard has the best loot luck most of the +2 tomes I currently have are pulled by her. Though I have some runners up my new cleric pulled a ring of spell storing which I thought was a myth lol. And my ranger finally got her own bloodstone. But definitely for loot Id say my wizard still has the lucky pulls.

I thought the same, lol.
In both cases my Sorc is my best solo looter. Desert runs, shroud pre-reqs (gotta have my pies!) reaver refuge rares.
My WF Ranger/Monk/Rogue is up there, but I spent alot more time gearing that toon up than my sorc. Also I bring a WF wizard hireling along to recon me (although can UMD scrolls in a pinch) an cast haste to slow my consumption of pots
For luckiest my sorc wins again. Reaver #6 - +3 Wis Tome. Reaver #7 (about a week later) - +3 Wis Tome.
Two guild clerics are very happy, but I still don't have a single toon that has eaten a +3 tome...
