I just read the announcement. Last day of beta will be August 17th. First day the Free-to-Play'ers, many of whom bought Turbnine Points that will transfer to live, can play again will be 22 days later on September 9th.

I think it's a major slap in the face to people that have spent real money on DDO in beta.

I'm trying to understand that rationale, since none was given. Perhaps they need to use the hardware that was being used for Lamannia to beef up the other servers?

I think if there is some pressing reason for locking these people out, that Turbine should announce it. At least knowing that there is an unavoidable reason could smooth over some of the bad feelings that may result from this. 22 days is a long time in my opinion considering what was previously announced probably led most of them to believe they'd have an eight day wait.

Any other thoughts out there?

Nope. First I've heard of it. Thanks for the heads up.

I don't think they will cannibalize their beta server to help handle the anticipated load for F2P. Then again they have surprised us all in the past.

Hmm, it's a head scratcher for sure....

This team has created an awesome game, that's the first thing I'd like to say. And despite the missteps etc, I know they all work hard, and passionately at it.

That being said, they also often make huge missteps when it comes to situations like this. Why oh why, woudl they at least start to get new people to play the game would they yank the power cord on those people? It makes absolutely no sense from a customer relations/marketing aspect at all. Not sure WHY they're doign it, but the way the players, at least a good many of them will take it... It's a first shot accross the bow of "Nice to have you, if you don't like it, see you all later" style of customer relations.

I wnet over to the Beta server to check things out and think they did a nice job for he most part on the new UI etc.

But man oh man, what are they thinking around this..... Just leave the Beta server up for the FtP players ot use until they can acutally log in to the live servers. There may be soem technical reason.... Who knows, but on the face of it.... THAT'S NOT WHAT THE PLAYERS WILL SEE AND OR THINK!

Oh and BTW, any Turbine points you actually purchased in Beta, whether you used them or not, will transfer automatically to live. NONE of the fre ponts you were awarded willl though. So if you bought 3,300 points.... You will indeed at lest get those on live.....

This message brought to you by a loyal DDO fan, who is yet again scratching the bald spot left on his head after the last 187 head scratching moments brought to him with great care from Turbine....

Assuming is never a good thing. That's my thought.

People assumed they'd have immediate access. Most, I'm guessing, have never been in betas before.

22 days does seem like a long time... I could see 10 days though for sure... I'd think the devs deserve a week of vacation... They've been working hard, and you know the first month after release is going to be crazy hard work for them too...

I'd want to say "Okay, it's done... everyone take a week off, we'll meet back here and discuss implementation, and roll it out a week after that..."

funniest part of this whole thing is your not paying for a game beta,.. your paying for an update beta rofl --- they've done some real spin to this game to make so many people think it's a new game "going gold"

Where did they promise FTPers and/or beta testers that they could play early?

Nowhere were you promised early access for doing the beta. You can't simply make up things you "deserve" like early access and then claim it's a "slap in the face" when they don't give it to you.

As the data from live will have to be captured at the last minute on 1st Sept, it is not the DB.
It is not game code as it has 'gone gold'.
IT ops can upgrade live hardware during normal downtimes it did not take weeks last time.

This leaves marketing.
Turbine wants to see how many of you will buy a sub.

You mean like those of us on live who were told we would get this mod at least eight months ago?
