One of my guildmates who is not in the beta is interested in playing DDO Unlimited once more. He had a trial account, but he also has a box with product key. Since his account isn't active, he can't post here, but has questions that might be relevant to others in the same situation.
1) Even though he has no subscription, he's been told that he could start playing DDO right now if he had a product code from a sealed box, which he does have. Is this true?
2) He has a lapsed guest/trial pass for DDO on his account. Will that prevent his product key from working, since it might be considered an upgrade? I should note that he has no problems creating a second account if doing so would work around the upgrade issue.
3) If he activates now, does he get the 999 bonus VIP "thank you" Turbine points? The wording says "VIPs as of July 31st" but again some people are posting otherwise.
4) When do the 500 points/month come in, would he get this if his 30 days was still active by the time Sept 9th rolls around?
In general, he's fairly upbeat about the direction DDO is taking, since he thinks the "Unlimited" would have been the right strategy from the get-go. For him, D&D's strengths lie in the small group working together, so DDO Unlimited would play to that strength, with a weekly group of people playing through a part of the game, and perhaps deciding as a group whether and when they'd buy into additional content.
Thanks.
