View Full Version : Protest and survive...

After playing this game for over three years now (yes, I know many of you have been playing even longer) I have decided to protest the recent actions of Turbine in relation to the DDO:EU delay (yet again). I stated this in a previous thread but just to clarify...
I will not be logging into EITHER server (live or beta) until DDO:EU goes live. I have voiced my opinion in many forms, as have many of my friends on the various servers I play (both defending and attacking Turbine for the choices made and the treatment of their player base). But this - well, I will not say it is the last straw - has gone too far. And I for one, have had enough (well, almost) :(
No, I am not cancelling my subscription (not yet anyway). My subscription is up in September (the 23rd to be exact). I am however choosing to boycott the latest 'developments'. I just don't think that Turbine is interested in the opinions of their LOYAL fan base any longer. And therefore, until I see something interesting or new (other than stress testing their game for them on a beta server, while still paying for the live game content) I refuse to log on to either server with either of my accounts. Yes, I have two of them.
Yes, I know that my meager attempt at protest while still paying a subscription fee is somewhat silly. But frankly I still think DDO is a great game. And is going to be even better once DDO:EU goes live (whenever that may end up being). But still this is my way of showing dissatisfaction, without being a real arse about it and gaining infraction points to my account.
I can deal with not logging in for the next month or year, what about you? If you feel inclined to do so, you may follow the lead I am setting or at least '/sign' your approval of this protest. No Im not keeping score, nor am I trying to get people to leave the game. But this is just getting ridiculous.

:( I really don't know how to understand not playing a game you enjoy as a protest for a business wanting to fine-tune their product before delivery. Starbucks has a recall on a burr grinder I bought. I didn't forgo coffee because they're giving me a new grinder in its place, even if it will take a week.

Everyone reacts in their own way I suppose...
It is really just a demonstration on my part at the frustration felt from empty promises and ever present and ongoing delays and the psuedo customer support they have 'offered' to their long term customers.
Let's look at it this way, if you put your car in the shop and the mechanic told you it would take 3 days to fix and you went without your car for a month and a half would you continue using that mechanic and pay the repair bill due without question or some sort of reason for the delay in repair?
or...
Your co-worker is supposed to provide a report for a sales pitch by Tues. to give to you for a presentation on say Thursday. Monday rolls around and they tell you it will be Wed. because they need to 'fine tune' the report or sales pitch. Then come Tuesday the same coworker says it will be Fri. before the report is done. Would this help or hinder your presentation? I mean the coworker does good work but has serious deadline issues, would you continue to rely on that coworker to get your reports to you in a timely fashion?
Just sayin you gotta draw the line somewhere and as I said, I don't expect them to 'drop everything' just because I haven't logged into either account in a month or so. But this has been an 'ongoing' problem for the Turbine team (or more for the DDO players that think that a persons word should be enough to see results).
I DO hope that all the hype and suspense is what it is promised to be. But I'm not holding my breath. At this point the only reason I am still a subscriber is because:
1. I do like the game and enjoy it when I play, most of the time.
2. My sub is not up for another month - then I may switch to F2P or cancel altogether, that remains to be seen.

Going on day 3 - I really wanna check out the AH and see who is giving their stuff away as they cancel their subs (I'm sure there is some good loot going really cheap). But I will continue...
I'm sure there is something else I can find to do, time to check the wife's 'honey-do list'...
Maybe instead of sitting in front of the computer I'll take the dog for a nice long walk or dust off the sportster and go for a ride, then again maybe I'll just sit at home, it looks like it might rain...

So you're "protesting" a video game by NOT playing it and posting on their message boards and wanting to check the auction house? Ooookay.
Since you're staying away but apparently starving for some game info, I'll give you a Ghallanda update:
- No one's quitting.
- Lots of new players are joining.
- Lots of LFMs are up.
- Lots of raids.
- Seems people are actually still having fun playing the game.
Sorry to disappoint you.

I didn't see anything that great on the Thelanis AH last night, and there seems to be quite a few players around, steady numbers of LFM's at all levels (heck I even been seeing Threnal LFMS!).
Only 26 days until it launches (knocks on wood, throws salt over shoulder), summer is winding down, take a break. It will make you appreciate the game when you come back.

What exactly are you Protesting?
What exactly do you hope to acomplish?
and if your following the forums on a daily basis, are you really away from the game?
There are much more effective ways to protest. If you think not logging in is a good one, your kidding yourself. Your not Protesting, your taking a break.

I appreciate the updates folks - Im glad things are going SO well for all of you.
Taking a break / protesting call it what you may (or what I have) either way. It's not so bad, it's like SOME other addictions, once you get past the withdrawl stage, it's not so bad.
You guys complain or voice your opinion in your way, I'll do so in mine.
I can deal with the postponement - it is the constant stream of misinformation that has got me miffed. I know, I know **** happens. But enjoyment of the content that is available is not there for me right now and this is what the 4-5 time that I can think of that Mod 9 or DDO:EU has been promised and not delivered. Yes I would rather it be 'right' (whatever that may be). But heck, keep it 'vast and mysterous' or simply keep telling me 'soon' - don't give me a date and then keep giving me new dates every month.
And I AM aware that DDO is not the only game that does this, there have been others, but it is the only one that I can think of that has taken darn near a full year to deliver on said promise. Just sayin.
As for checking the forums, everyone else can get on here and rant and rave, so i dont see how I am any different in that respect. Signing into the game itself or not.
Have a nice day :D
BTW - everyone is entitled to their opinion no matter how egocentric or foolish it may be. ;) ESPECIALLY on the internet.

I was all about the one day boycott on the 4th, but my DDO addiction won't allow for me to go any further. I am of the mind to be over with being upset, which is harmful only to me.
Now if September 1st passes without Mod 9..............................

Thank you for a meaningful response, unlike SOME that have bothered posting :D
+1 Rep for a combination of truthfulness, signature and bio location... :p
