Hjello,

I heard that the greatsword swing animation has been fixed to equal the speedy greataxe on the Llama server. Is this correct, and also have the rest of the 2HWeapons been fixed as well? For example, the falchion.

From what I've tested, everything now swings at the same speed. (The Q-Staff still has a different animation though)

Oh wow. really? How did this slip under the radar? If this comes with mod 9 what a great upgrade. I mean, from the start players have passed on the falchion and greatsword because of the slow animation. If true, a big thumbs up.

Yeah, it's a great change that will make lots of currently underused weapons popular. I for one love it!

so if everything swings at the same speed... what is the ideal 2hander to use now?

Anyone have a breakdown for this?

Falchion and greatsword improved......but it still seemed they were just a touch slower than greataxes.....Might just have been me though....

Well, it all depends. I did my calculations with a high STR, doubled frenzied FB, and the Falchion (even though the FB only gets its bonus crits on a 19-20) ends up as the best weapon. I did some calcs with some other things too, and the Falchion, Greataxe and Greatsword are all about the same.

Note that I did my calculations for Greensteel, so an ordinary Falchion might not be so good in comparison to the Greataxe and Greatsword.

I need to re-read the Ask the Devs #9 transcript, but I think Eladrin said that the swing animations are being kept the same, but the actual swing times are being equalized.

For a high strength melee class with seeker bonuses:
1)Falchion Elf
2)Falchion
3)Greataxe Dwarf
4)Greatsword
5)Greataxe

without seeker greataxe and greatsword are equal.

Note: some classes/PrEs can alter the effectiveness of certain weapons... and with low str/damage modifier the falchion can fall behind the others.

-Low str/damage can hurt the falchion
-High enemy fortification hurts the falchion
-Dwarf to hit bonuses should not be underestimated (especially for twitch attacking)

Hmm....Seemed to me on beta that the swing times were sped up.....just a touch slower than greataxe.....Like I said though, it may just be me....

could be the increase in swing speed due to increase in BAB - after spending 8 months at level 16, I expect you're just noticing being at level 20 for the first time

Very good summary. One other thing to mention is that with the introduction of favored souls, the devs unveiled a set of diety based enhancements for warforged based around the Lord of Blades. It's possible that at some point in the future, warforged might get greatsword enhancements from this line. So it would be:

elf: falchion, scim
wf: greatsword (speculation)
dwarf: greataxe

Not sure if they will add Greatsword enhancements for WF, but the extra + to hit combined with WF powerattack makes it still a very good choice....

Basically, it will always be beneficial to use you race/class specific weapons
