I was thinking that Kung Fu Panda would be a better source:

“There is no charge for Awesomeness, or Uberness.”

How dare you slight Watchmen...are you the Antichrist?

The movie cost around 120 to 150 million to make and brought in 56 million on its opening weekend. Which is not bad, but this guy directed "300." Which was a surprise hit and made Gerard Butler a star.

Trust me, no one from Watchmen is going to be a star from that movie unless it is Rorshach or the sort of hot brunette chick.

The next weekend Watchemn brought in 33 million but lost to that other uber great movie RACE to Witch Mountain starring the "Can you smell what the Rock is cooking" Dwayne.

How come all the crazy ticket buying public let Watchmen get beat out by race to witch Mountain? Because the teens saw it, and through word of mouth said the movie stunk.

Here is a budget analysis Cost to make is 120 million to 150 million
The movie's 10 Day gross: $135.5 million
But the movie theatres get to keep 60 million for their profits costs
After theater's cut: $74.5 million
now, you have to pay Fox for their efforts or lack thereof 5 million
After Fox's cut: $68.3 million
Now you pay paramount their cut of anywhere from 35 million to 17 million
After Paramount: $51.3 - 34.1 million.
Unaccounted marketing costs: $50 million
This is advertising, the marketing blitz which was HUGE just about as HUGE as Dr. Manhattan's nuclear tool.

This leaves Warner Brothers with holding a serious bag of NO CASH and probably losing money.

Here is a nice quote from a supposed Warner Brothers Exec
""I hate to think that, after two f--king years of marketing, we're a one-weekend movie," a Warner Brothers executive told Finke. But that may be what happens. "It's impossible to change course now," a studio executive says about Watchmen's long reluctance to even explain what the film is about in its movie trailers and TV ads. "The time to do that was in the last 10 to 12 days before the opening."

if you enjoyed Watchmen the movie, good for you. I enjoyed Transformers 2 and others did not. Even though Transformers 2 had ZERO flow of a script or plot. Other than the director, Michael Bay, shouting ACTION!!!! I guess the actors and special effects did just that gave action.

Now, will I buy Transformers 2? Probably although it is nowhere near as good as Transformers I.
