Ok I have a quick question for you number crunching types....

I thinking of building a character that has Tempest I and Wind Stance.

Ranger Tempest I
Usage: Passive
Cost: 4 action points
Spent: 16 action points
Requires All of: Spring Attack, Mobility, Dodge, Two Weapon Fighting, Improved Two Weapon Fighting
Available to Ranger class level 6
Your training has greatly improved your ability to fight with two weapons at once, granting a 10% competence bonus to dual wield attack speed and a +2 shield bonus to armor class when two-weapon fighting. You may possess only one prestige enhancement line at a time for each class.

Lesser Wind Stance:
+2 Dexterity, -2 Constitution, 7.5% Enhancement bonus & 2.5% Insight bonus to Attack Speed

Wind Stance:
+2 Dexterity, -2 Constitution, 10% Enhancement bonus & 5% Insight bonus to Attack Speed

Greater Wind Stance:
+3 Dexterity, -2 Constitution, 12.5% Enhancement bonus & 7.5% Insight bonus to Attack Speed

Ok as you see they both add attack speed, however I'm guessing because of how the Wind Stance attack speed is from Enhancement bonus and insight bonus that only part of that will stack with the Tempest attack speed, but which one? Also would all of that stack with haste?

Any info here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Turns out this entire issue is quite complicated. You'll find the answer and a lot more here:

http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=172819

The "short answer" is that attack boost bonuses of the same name do not stack. So you get one Enhancement bonus (usually Haste), one Insight bonus (Monk), and one Competence bonus (Ranger).

But the way these things stack is highly unintuitive -- in some cases the Monk's Insight's bonus can be almost negligible. Best bet is to use the attack speed calculator linked from the thread above.

And one more thing:

As far as I know, the only weapon setup that can benefit from both wind stance and Tempest is two Kamas. (Tempest doesn't apply to unarmed.)

Since kamas tend to suck for DPS, I'd be worried about any build that is trying to stack Tempest and Wind Stance.

That is correct, Tempest doesn't apply to handwraps. I have a pretty solid 10m/6rng - he was made not too long before the first Sneak Peek. At this point, Monk 20 negates and trumps anything the 6 ranger levels add...I don't recommend anyone build a Tempest Monk.

Thanks for the replies... and yea I knew about the kamas needing to be the weapon, however did not know that their dps was subpar....

Base damage is pretty lame, but more importantly the critical range is horrible. With all the crazy stuff that can improve criticals, weapons with big crits like Khopeshes, Rapiers, Kukris, and Scimitars end up quite a lot ahead of Kamas.

I have hopes that my Tempest wind monk will someday be able to use a weapon OTHER then kamas.

In the meantime, I still enjoy playing him.

Hmmmm this seems weird as hell :p

Since as a monk you use TWF feats to increase you unarmed fighting (barehanded/wraps) as well as dual weapons of course. Then it sure should count as Two weapon fighting shouldn't it? Why wouldn't monks benefit from the tempest attack speed then? :S To me it makes no sense that it wouldn't

Just a quick thought... you gt no benefit for a .5 in a skill it needs to be a full point. You might want to think to consolidate them into a class skill.
