I was running tangleroot on hard, and we made it to the last part. We killed both the ogres and got their keys, and all we had to do was kill the boss.

One party member died on the trap (we had no rogue). No problem, shrine right there... D'oh! He accidentally hit release!

We wait for him, and he tries to run back through the first part and into the inner fortress to get the completion. He fails to do so twice.

At this point I tell him, "hey xxx, if you want, we can just complete and then i'll help you do this on norm so you can get your completion... and if anyone else wants to help, that'd be great"

he agreed... we finish on hard, i ask if anyone else wants to help him but no one does (i was a bit surprised, but it was pretty late, so they may have been just logging for bed)

xxx and i went in and tried to do it ourselves.. we ran through most of the outer fortress... i died twice trying to get there but he made it...

end of story, i get through, we complete, he gets the reward, etc

Basically, I'm just curious if anyone thinks those other people should have stuck around.. On norm with a full party it would have been 5-10 mins for the last part as opposed to upwards of 20 trying to duo it. I didn't press the issue but I thought the guy who said he was going to solo a few really quick quests to level should have stuck around, and maybe the guy who was gonna go watch anime lol

I'm pretty sure the guy is relatively new to the game, and I generally go out of my way to help newbies (when i'm in a good mood that is :))

Any thoughts? Or any similar stories of helping newbies and/or not getting help when you had some bad luck?

I would have stuck around it would have taken 5 min or so to do it and would have been the right thing to do if it had happened to those other people they would have been unhappy if people hadnt stuck around to help them.

Unless there's some really good reason to leave, would deffo just stay and do whatever the party decides even afterwards. I prefer to stick to a group once joined till a full disband, don't like to scope the lfms, much less do my own ^^

I agree with this. Unless I really did have to go, such as work related, etc. I would have stuck around to help finish it out. Those 2 go quick enough.

Yep... depends on the timing... it always seems the case that people underestimate the time to do TR, so when they told their wife "I need only 10 more minutes" and then it is actually 30 minutes later when you finish, you usually have to get the end reward and get out quick.

:D

If I wasn't going to stay, I would said so when asked. It's kinda rude to just bail when everyone assumes you're staying.

But with that scenario, I woulda stayed because I know I can solo that pretty fast so a group woulda blasted it.

I would have stayed and have stayed up waay later then I was supposed to many nights to help people. Then again Ive no spouse and can function mindlessly while making sure my toddler is fed and cared for in the morning.

Not everyones situation is a like though. I know many a friend whose wife would get pretty mad if they stayed up till the wee morning hours just helping someone online get threw a game quest. And add work and the like to the reasons to.

Not saying they were right to bail just know that there are always mitigating factors to why people drop including that while most of us can breeze threw TR and not think too much about it depending on perspective that quest can take a lot out of people. Its one of those chains that can go really fast and smooth with a good group or be a long arse nightmare with a not so great group.

Glad you stuck it out though OP the game needs more people like you :)

If I was feeling up to helping a newbie I might have stayed, but he definitely did it to himself (first by not dodging the trap, then by hitting release, then by not being able to just run through the entrance quest). Come to think of it, if I'd had this guy in my party the whole time I probably wouldn't have been in a good enough mood to stick around.

i would have released and run back with the guy the first time he failed to make the run.

if i made plans, i wouldnt stick around for a 2nd run. instead i rather release, help him thru part 1 and then complete part 2

All comes down to timing and the individual. Personally, if I have the time, I'm happy to help, but there's often a good chance that I don't have the time.

Its all xp for me-I would not mind rerunning to assist-but would not expect the group to stick around-would be on a case-by-case basis. I may see who is staying and who is leaving and then put up a quick LFM to fill for last part re:run.

Depending on the group that quest can take two minutes. So I probably would have stayed unless there was an epic reason not to do so.

Finishing a long quest chain is a natural break point for most parties. Unless you've already said you'll help out, most people would rather go do something else. As Akla pointed out, by far the easiest method to keep the momentum going is to recall immediately and rerun the first part, otherwise its much harder to get people to come back in.
