Permadeath advice

I'm new to permadeath and wanted to get everyone's/anyone's advice that is specific to permadeath. A survival guide if you will. I'm looking for general advice. My question is inspired by a couple of questions that have come up during my brief permadeath adventures. For example, I'm running a pali, to me diplomacy makes no sense when it's life or death. I'd rather invest in spot (even though it's a cross class skill) so I can detect traps. It seems like that might extend my lifespan. Also, I've wondered if it makes sense to enhance hp whenever possible. And given a choice of quest completion gifts should I focus on hp or ac? But agaiN I'm just looking for any pointers from experienced PD'ers.

well depends since we are going to be running a static group let the rogue fulfill that role and you get all the skills you need to tank as a paladin or heal as a cleric...oh and toughness is your friend :)
