Hello,

I have to say that I love the game. My free trial is abut to expire, and now I am ready to go VIP. Now the only thing I have (problem) is that I cannot advance. Well, what happened is that I was a rogue before, and got to lvl 3.

On the Korthos Island and the Village I have no problem at all, but once I go to Stormreach (next city) I get this problem. Now the problem is that I keep missing when I try to hit, and therefor I cannot complete nothing by myself.

I spoke with a lot of people and they told me to be a warrior, and do custom character and set my SRT 18, CON 16, and DEX 14. And that's exactly what I have done (almost). I got 18, 14 and 14 due to the points available.

I tried all kind of other settings to get this to the way they recommended,, but I could not. Some people even told me to get SRT to minimum 20, but that was not possible as for me all the time 18 was max (it says MAX).

Now if someone here can help me with this, and tell me how to solve the problem, I would be more then happy to continue playing the game. Otherwise, I will be forced to go to anther game due to this problem. I do not mind getting people in my party, but a lot of people are just not interested in doing quests together.
Some are cool and some are not. :)

Please if some one can explain I would be very happy and would appreciate this greatly.

I just hope I don't have to play it again, as there is no option to transfer the EXP. I have done every quest on Elite (that takes time). :)

Thank you very much!

not sure what class you mean by warrior, what class are you?

What type of weapons are you using?

What kind of armor are you using?

Do you know that you take a penalty for moving while swinging?

Are you trying quests at your level, above, or below? Normal hard or elite?

And more in general, this game was designed for grouping, try it. Failing that, if you really hate grouping, know that the next release of the game will be more solo friendly.

"Whiffing" or continually failing to hit a target is very very frustrating."
What it is supposed to mean, is that your character is struggling to strike the target in melee.
What it really means is that you either lack the proper equipment, or you are trying quests above your level.

The way to hit monsters, is to increase your Attack Bonus, Attack bonus is raised by

more starting strength
more strength items
being higher level
weapons with a higher + (try using a +2 or +3 item)
and much more

Attack bonus is lowered by

being not proficient with weapons (ex: wizards trying a greataxe)
or moving while attacking
and much more

Good luck, what I recommend to try to join groups, and do quests with 6 people, makes the learning curve much easier

While 18 is the max starting str for a character, there are plenty of ways to increase it over that. There are items that will increase your stats, along with enhancements, and some spells. There are also the more permanent options of tomes and every 4 levels you can put 1 point into a stat.

As far as your rogue. I'm assuming you have high dex. In which case, your best bet is to pick up the feat weapon finesse. You should be able to pick it up at level 3. It makes it so you use dex instead of str as a bonus to your to hit, though it only works on certain weapons like daggers and short swords.

Well I try to stay still while I try to hit my enemy and also I try t use blocking and stuff (in addition, I only press hit when needed). Also I have the equipment that I looted from the chest. I only equip things that do not say that there are any "penalty" if used. As for quests, I only do my level.

I wouldn't personally recommend the weapon-finesse route. For a player learning the game, it is better to not take the weapon finesse feat - because weapon finesse restricts you to certain weapons (rapier/kukri/light weapons), while using your STR for you attack, allows any weapons that your character is proficient with

In your basic fight, there is little need to actively block.

common things that reduce your to hit.

defensive fighting turned on -?
combat expertise turned on -5
power attack turned on -5
using a tower shield -2
moving -4
using non proficient weapon (yellow box around the weapon icon box) -4
twf -?

If you get a couple of these going on at same time it pretty much be whiff city.

On your rogue are you a dex build ( dex > str ) and do you have weapon finesse feat to be able to use your dex score to hit on certian weapons.

Even if you dumped defensive fighting out of your hotbars it can still be active.

I joined the guild as well, but they are most of the time offline. They are all like lvl 9+

As foor my character:

Style: Melee
Class: Fighter
Path: Custom
Race: Human

As I said, I do not mind playing with someone, but I also want a kill too.
My friend is lvl 9 and when he hits is like one hit = kill. We played my quests. He just wanted to help.

Yeah, your pretty much doing the basics right. It is a very common problem for lower level character to over-come monster's AC (Armor Class) at make hits - many many characters without the proper weapons or equipment struggle to hit stuff.

The difficulty rating on quests is ranked in terms of a party doing a quest. So if you are solo-ing, a quest that is marked as your level, will in-fact be much more difficult. I recommend grouping as much as possible, and letting groups know you are a new player so they can help you.

Let me tell you first, Welcome to DDO! :)

As for people telling you exactly what to do, don't do it. Sure it is good to some extent, but character development is alot more complicated than to let any bully tell you to do exactly that and su and follow. There are lot of different viable options, some of them mentioned already.

Most importantly don't let people tell you what you should enjoy or should play, if you like to play a rogue then play a rogue not a fighter. In which case I would recommend the below reading first, it's a very good guide for every rogue.

http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=124401

For the trial/vip problem. The new business model didn't launch yet, there are no vip's but casual subscirbers, you can buy the game online somewhere on the main page, which will eventually become a vip sub when the new stuff launches. Also buying a new sub you can use the activation key on your trial account to keep all your characters and simply upgrade from trial to fulltime sub.

I have no idea how to activate/disable that, but now I am Fighter as I started over. But the same thing is happening. I have removed everything from my hot bar except search (so l can look for hidden doors and such).

Yeah. That would be cool if I could find cool people. I fund two and they are offline most of the time. I joined the guild too, but since I changed my character (even I use the same name) I am not in the guild anymore. I would assume it's because of the class change. I understand what you all are trying to say, but I also want to play alone when no one is around. I do not mind trying it million times, but I do mind missing when trying to hit.
If some one would be kind enough to meet me in stormreach (city after K. Island/Village) or Market Place, and trade me the weapon, shilled and armor I need just to try it.
I know it cost gold, but I can give it back or give gold till I pay it off. Or simply show me how it looks so I can remember and wait for it until I can get it.

Thanx!

some I listed were feats that activate

Power attack
combat expertise
defensive fighting

You find them on you character sheet under feats and can drag them back into your hotbar. They are toggle on off. If you have a blue line running around the icon in your hotbar it is on.

situational

moving stand still and you will not have a penalty
Two weapon fighting (twf) you have a weapon in each hand to attack with. depending on weapons and feats can get to be a big penalty.

Items

nonproficency you are not proficient with weapon will have yellow square around it
Tower sheild equiped. tower sheilds give a penalty to your to hit. A heavy sheild will give you 2 less ac but not the penalty to hit.

And what is missing alot depending on what you are fighting hitting 30-50% of the time is normal.

Hi,

As for blue thing circling around that, is not happening. Even when everything was there (hotbar). I never use that. Sometimes, I use Search, Disable, and Stealth (when was a Rogue), but that is all. As for weapons and all the other goodies, I stick with whatever does not give me penalty or limitations.

The one question everyone has forgotten to ask is what server are you playing on that is giving you the lack of help to the point that you are having to solo?

Soloing is fine if that is what you want to do, but the game is much more fun when you group up with other people and when you get into the higher quests/raids you really can't solo those (especially the raids).

Depending on the server you are on you might want to change servers and find a server that is more helpful and more friendlier to you, before you decide to quit the game and see if there is a server that can help you progress and help you build the type of toons you would like.

Hi, the city right after Korthos Island and that Village that is were the trouble start. Now I am trying all the the quests o Solo, but whenever a group I do Normal, Hard, and then Elite. The problem is that it applies to all of the quests I am trying (no mater diff.). When grouping I always group with some one that is new to the city and that is my level, and then we do the quests together.

When I play with my friends that are 9 and 16 we do my quests most of the time as they do PvP all the time anyways. However, I do not mind going to the quests that clearly say that I must be lvl 7 do enter (for instance). Over there I just follow them and do nothing as I cannot even survive by just doing that. :)

I am not mad at those quests, but I am mad at the quests that I am suppose to be able to do, and that are the only once listed for me for my level.

Sorry for the challenge you're having.

Are there certain monsters you're having more problems with than others? If so, which ones?

Have you gone out into the Cerulean Hills? How hard do you find it to hit the monsters there? what about the Waterworks (not the quests, just the adventure area).

What times are you on? I bet there's a bunch of people on the forums here who would like to help.

I noticed you wrote 'removed things from your hotbar' - that isn't what turns them on or off - you have to click then to turn them on or off - it is even possible that they are 'on' but you can't see them.

One request - the next time you're on, hit the 'I' button - that will bring up your inventory, and at the bottom there should be information about your current to-hit bonus, your damage and other stuff, for both hands, as well as your AC.

If you don't mind, write down what you see down there (or take a screenshot and post it, if you'd prefer), and we can look at what's going on.

Hiya SloWMN,

Welcome to khyber. Sorry I havent been around this past week or so to greet you properly but I've been having health issues. Please post your ingame name here and I will see about sending some help your way.

Also one quick question. Are you using two weapons or one weapon and a shield?

Also there is a help channel on Khyber

Type /joinchannel help

then use /1 MESSAGE to ask a question
example /1 Who is Fred?
Again I am unable to play at the moment but the folks who help monitor the channel will be more than happy to help you out and I will see to it someone sends you a care package if you post your name here.

Occassionally there will be spots where you and the monster seem to glitch and you cannot hit. This is a bug in the programs. If you move away by a small amount the monster will come to you and you will start to hit. I don't know why it happens, but it does.

My friend is lvl 9 and when he hits is like one hit = kill. We played my quests. He just wanted to help.

If your friend is level 9, chances are he could give you a weapon to use to help out. Ask him next time you're on. I assume he sells what he loots and obviously it will be better than what you're pulling.
A better weapon will help your combat go a bit smoother.

If you're not into grouping this may all be a moot point though. While it will be more solo friendly this game isn't much of a solo fest and most quests will require a group or at least really well prepared characters with scads of resources.

Yeah, this is not WOW. When you have a 9th level grouping with you, he is over 3 times as powerful (greater due to the equipment he can amass from adventuring so much).

You are also being "power levelled" and not getting XP when he is over 3 levels higher than you. Stick to people at your level and you should be fine.

Your friend should start up a low level and go along with you.

Finally, you can hold the mouse button down to attack (and not just try to click over and over).

Hi,

Thank you very much guys. I have fixed the issue now. My friend gave me a good weapon, and guided me to what armor to get and whatnot. So now I am all good. Plus the LVL 4 fixed the issue. I still do get problems from time to time, but that is OK. At least, now I can do something. I can do anything, but Elite quests. Still on Elite I get a lot of misses, but other then that, I am all good to get the full game now. :)

The only thing is that my CC is not working, and I am wondering if there is a "gift card" or "card with promotion code" to be purchased with cash and used to activate the game for one year? I live in Toronto, Canada.

Other then this last issue with CC, I will find the way to get my hands on the key I need. Might get my mom to get it for me, and give her the cash. :) Good to be home (kinda)! ;)

Oh, and if anyone wants to add me to their friend list, my in game name is Kaishar Pelshich and I am playing on Khyber.

Don't bother with asking me how did I come up with that name, I just did. :)

Thank you!

EDIT:

P.S. Just wndering why am I getting this: (Error): Eccentric is already in a party. This is my friend, and I am trying to invite him/her, but it gives me this error msg. He/she is not in my party. This started 2 day ago. Maybe I should buy the game and try reinstall? I might loose my toon if I do that?

Have you joined the help channel on Khyber?

Type /joinchannel help

in your chat window

then send messages by typing /help

People will be in there to answer your questions and you'll find their advice very helpful.

They can also probably help you with some items and gold to get you over this hump.

Also consider grouping up! It's more fun to play in a group anyway. We have VERY interesting personalities on Khyber. You'll enjoy meeting them. Well. Most. :D

Check your mailbox soon for some goodies, Kaishar. :D Make sure you check the unconfirmed tab thats where most of it will be.
