View Full Version : Please Help Me With My GF's 9/2 Ranger!

Hi guys,

My partner and I play DDO together, and while she enjoys the playing of the game, I deal with all the mechanics of the game; gear, builds, leveling, etc.

She wanted a 'ranged' ranger, with rogue capabilites. So, I went with a 14/2 build. She is currently at 9/2.

Seeing the new ranger capstone makes me realise that she won't be able to have comparable ranged dps at level 20 (I know that ranged dps is underwhelming). So I thought, to meet that eventuality, she could become TWF focussed (she already uses them a lot), tampest ranger, 18/2.

So, how can I change her build, as she levels towards 20.

Currently:
Str=18 (13+5item)
Dex=28 (18+2lvls+6item+2enh)
Con=18 (13+5item)
Int=21(15+1tome+5item)
Wis=12(9+2item)
Cha=8

I was thinking I should put her remaining three level ups into strength, swap IC=Ranged for Piercing, pick up PA (is 13, 16 a level 20 str enough?), and meet the requirements for Tempest instead of Deadwood. She uses Weapon Finesse.

Would this turn her into decent tempest dps? Would her 'to hit' be high enough, without increasing her dex anymore? Is PA valid using TWF without a high str?

Plus, one FINAL question :)

Can she reach decent AC due to her dex? ATM she doesn't focus on it at all, maybe this is a mistake? If she can get decent AC, can someone list the 'breakdown'.

I appreciate the help!

Cheers

BoBo

Of a player that has a Ranger 6/Rogue 8/Monk 2 that can boost his AC to 106.

starting stats: 12 str, 19 dex, 14 con, 12 wis, 11 int, and 8 cha

He listed everything he did to be what he is.

Keep putting level ups into Dex, it's her primary stat... It controls her to hit and AC.

IC Piercing is a good choice.

Power Attack is viable, it will help make up for the low str. It gives 5 damage and takes 5 to hit; so you want her primary stat (dex) high.

She can definitely get usable AC. A break down depends on what kind of content you two run. With Vanilla gear 40ish is easily doable, which is pretty good for GH stuff.

Self buffed/Final AC Breakdown:
10 Base
9 dex
6 Armor Bracers (Can get 7/8 as well)
5 deflection
1 ritual
2 tempest
----------------
33 - unbuffed
----------------
1 haste
2 shield spell (Wands)
5 barkskin
----------------
41 - self buffed

Thanks guys -and thanks for the detail advice Nyvn. She will take that on board - we should be able to get her serviceable AC (she has good luck with loot... heh).

Cheers guys

Also keep in mind that picking up combat expertise is a nice option for a ranger/rogue. I have both combat expertise and power attack on my guy, and I switch between the two for added versatility.

I'll also echo the other poster's advice.. Just keep putting level up points into dexterity. It's got a lot of benefits if you keep pushing it up and up.

You could also respec at least one feat and drop it into the chain to qualify for tempest---letting you qualify sooner.

Cheers Riorik, cheers Osharan.

I think I may switch her to tempest soon (flicking the feats around), and she can get used to the idea of 20s multi shotting, then twf.

I do like the idea of picking up CE and PA - I will see how I can fit it. I really like the idea of CE, simply because atm she gets squished easily.

Cheers guys :)
