Hello all,
Bit of a rant here. First, let me say that I am all about helping new players out. If you ask me question I will answer as best I can.
However, sometimes, based on the mood I'm in, I don't have the patience to show new people around every aspect of the game. Sometimes I just want to log in and bang a quest out.
Now, of course, misery loves company, so I'll always throw an LFM up. Sometimes I get some good gossip.
That being said, when you join my group, you need to understand what you are joining. If you see
ww norm part 1 ip byoh fast
and that just looks like a bunch of jibberish to you, ask. I'll be more than happy to explain. But don't join this group and ask 'where r u?', because you should be able to tell where I am from the lfm.
That's all, thanks.

Sometimes I'll join a Raid, remark about how cool it will be, and then ask which House it's in. That doesn't mean I don't really know what I'm doing, though.

You type too much which is why people are confused.
Use the KISS principle - Keep It Simple Stupid.
WW 1 BYOH Z
Translates as: Waterworks part 1, Bring your own healing, Zerg.
No need to tell them N/H/E because there's this whole other little selection on the LFM screen that gives them that information.

KISS is what I use when I teach skiing to four-year-olds. I would hope that the DDO player base is a little more competent.

Wait a minute though...you're the first person to mention that IP stands for In Progress...so you must have known that already. :D
I read IP as Internet Protocol, not In Progress.
I read it as "intellectual property", at first.
Some acronyms are stupid. "zerg, no cleric, in progress" fits in the LFM just fine.

After some of the PUGs, doesn't this seem like a misplaced hope?

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.
Although, a lot of PUGs really does seem like masochism at times...
Just need to throw my 2 cents into this thread.
If you join a Raid with a closed door that says:
In Progress Free Completion Only
Than do not expect to roll on loot, or contribute in any way, take your completion, shutup (Exceptions made for jokers and kiwis) and walk away. I dont care that you saw so and so in the bar, do you know that he isn't along for the free ride to?

From the DDO Alphabet book:
P is for Pug Group Leader, the masochist's idol. A great way to live if you feel suicidal!

My favorites are the LFM that say one quest in the note and a different quest in the quest box.
ie. note: stk n/h/e quest box: First Strike
Then you send a tell asking which quest they are doing and you get told "VoN 1". :D
