In additon to shield-blocking, what other tactics are there?
I noticed that not everyone needs to run head-first into battle.
Tactics of bringing the fight to the enemey are best left to two-handed fighting barbarians and two-weapon rangers.
Sometimes shield-blocking occurs somewhere in the center of a hall while the party's aggressors launch an attack, with ally casters behind you.
This position, between ally agressors and friendly casters, is a good tactical position to catch any agressors that break through your party's front-line assault.
In addition, I find that while your barbarian may be running a gambit to get to the enemy commander or caster; other agressors could be assassinating your friendly caster!
Which why, many times my fighters engage in "arcane-caster protection mode" where a fighting withdral is utilized, sometimes with shield use, to protect wizards and sorcereers who have garnered agro.
Figthing withdrawl & shield-block, two tactics to utilize in additon to "attack".
