View Full Version : Chronicle of Soloing the Titan, Chapter 1 (not successful yet)

So I'm working on soloing the entirety of the raid with my bard, Falstian. I gave it a shot tonight and died due to a lagspot with 2 hits on; I'll probably give this another try tomorrow and I feel pretty good about my success (an adamantine/greater cb returner would make my life far easier, though) next time around. Several people requested I post what happened in this one, so I've decided to post my incompletion screenshots here.
I'll explain more of my strategy after I complete.

For taking the pillars down alone, depending on server auction house prices, I'd recommend getting a shortbow/longbow/crossbow of greater construct bane and lugging a quiver of projectiles (such as Deneith Adamantine Arrows) if your STR is low. The sanity it saves is worth the cost when doing this. :)

The cause of wanting to do such a feat may be caused by boredom, but I can assure you that doing this was quite exciting to do (for me at least). I'm actually awaiting to see success on this as I've yet to see a public report of a bard accomplishing this.

I concur; this was the most fun I've had on ddo in months, hands down.
I need to get a couple items before I try again, but I probably will tomorrow night; the biggest challenge was prepping the tops, by far, up to that point, though I think if I was not lucky positioning him could be a major issue.
The toon has 24 str, but only had a ghost touch of const bane returner, so I probably will have to go the bow route; In a normal raid I can melee the titan, but I can't really risk double-blender move, and I can only live through one before I have to heal up.

If you need help there are a few spots that are relatively safe to prep them. On a few corner spots on the second floor if the titan is below you he may not fire or attack, giving you plenty of time to prep. Also, the area behind the laser control panel can be very safe depending on where the titan is positioned.

Oh I don't disagree with you at all, it will be an accomplishment no doubt. I don't see why a Bard wouldn't be as capable as any other class in this. And as you can see in his post below, he had fun doing it, but he forgot to mention the total boredom he's been suffering the last few months ;) I've heard all about it BTW ;)
So perhaps the lack of any new content leads to more fun :D

Getting through the laser tunnels of the Twilight Forge alone for running crystals requires fast uninterrupted healing in large doses and having 220+ HP, something you typically don't see a bard built for (aka, it requires quicken or over 60 Concentration and a fairly good sized SP pool). You take somewhere around 1200-2500 damage during a time frame of roughly 30 seconds, which is something not every build can handle.

His bard is healing specced..... With 375 HP, and 1165 SP easy peasy....

Doesn't have to be an "optimal build"...a good player can take any character and play it well.

I agree that a good player can make a character do amazing things, but I was stating that there are requirements to doing the Twilight Forge in the manner being presented. It has to be "optimal enough".

He hasn't even posted anything about his build or his strategy yet...seems a bit early to judge, IMO. I'm curious as well, but he's said that he'll divulge the details once he has it all worked out.

I apologize, I didn't mean to sound like I was specifically judging him by my wording. I was simply posting what is needed to do this for others who may read this and possibly want to attempt this. Also, the screenshots themselves show enough of his build to show it is doable (he has the HP, he has the SP, Quicken and 3 healing spells are there, bards can get Song Magic IV and use some form of potency/devotion).
As far as strategy, the screenshots show that too. He took a total of 5 medallions which means he took a purple, a red, ran through the blue tunnel healing, destroyed the 4 adamantine golems, opened purple and red, ran back (or dimension doored), destroyed the red and purple, took a green, solved the green puzzles utilizing dimension door, got a blue, opened blue and green, ran back, destroyed the blue, got a yellow, ran through the blue tunnel healing, opened yellow, went down and destroyed the mindflayer, and went into the Twilight Forge Core.

Close:
Purple, red, heal down blue, kill golems, ddoor:
destroy red, go back down purple, take blue, hit blue.
ddoor, shrine, solve green to the yellow/blue giver (3 ddoors), take yellow, heal down purple, then heal down blue.
With Staff of the Petitioner, Spellsong Trance and the Gloves of the Glacier, 1000 sp is more than enough to heal down two hallways (purple and then blue) without shrining, and it required less time/ddooring than finishing the green side.
My main problem with switching to a bow to prep the titan is going to be to-hit, this toon had an 8 starting dex vs a 15 starting str, and hitting even with the throwing hammer was pretty iffy.

Last thing I remember I believe was from a couple years ago after somebody posted about duo-ing it...and they'd pronounced it un-soloable then. I've always loved this raid - been doing it since the module was released - after BCB, of course. Cometfall scrolls for the win!
So was it the last round of changes to the Titan aggro/AI that made you think about attempting to solo it?

I had thought about it for a while, but MrCow did it upwards of a year ago and only recently let one of his secrets slip: without that info I would have also thought it impossible.

Hmmm, they don't have an AC, perhaps missing with the throwing hamemr had to do with the range of the weapon. Not many pay attention to it..... But I did notice at one point a couple years ago, I hit the pillar tops a lot more often, meaning I actually got a roll after I fired, after I replaced my GCB short bow with a GCB longbow.

Ilmer of DDO Europe took the titan down alone in June 2008 with his bow-based UMD barbarian. He had help getting through the Twilight Forge to get into the Twilight Forge Core, but he was among the first to give visual proof of the Titan being soloable. He put his conquest recording up on youtube under the name of Silverhilt (http://www.youtube.com/silverhilt). It was quite refreshing to see that it was doable. :)

Doh, blurry eye'd from reading all the rear kissing/spanking (You decide which is good and which is bad) posts :)
Sent you that bow just now BTW.... Worth a shot... His AC can't be THAT high........ Besides it's a +2 flaming burst of GCB.. So maybe it'll only be 1,500 arrows :p

Use a bow of Destruction first, then switch to the GCB. Should help out with a toon that has issues hitting. Also, I'd recommend trying to find some Screaming Amythist Arrows. 50% return, extra 1d6 Sonic Damage, and +5 (the bow probably won't be.)

its high enough when you are a bard with 16 dex who has to run around to avoid the volleys and lacks bow strength ;)
I was only about +25 or so to hit with the throwing hammer.

Holy Titan Dung - I did not know that'd even happened.
I had a sudden flash-idea. Think about how easy this might be if Cometfall still worked well like it did a long time ago. Total speculation - lot of reasons back then why it would have been significantly more difficult under the level 12 cap and a different game ruleset.
