At first, just try to play with as many different ppl / guilds as you can. It's the best way to meet folks and the best way to learn the game. Once you've grouped several times with a guild you like, see about getting an invite (if they don't ask you first). Welcome to the game!

Wamj is right.. I would group with as many different guilds as you can.. But keep in mind just because someone from one guild is nice in a PUG, doesnt mean the whole guild is.
Also, keep an eye out for people in the guild Under Temporary Construction. Its a good group of players that are more than willing to help teach ya the basics of the game and show you some quests. They play mostly nights/weekends.
The other thing you might do is when you find a guild you think you want to join... ask to join on a trial period... They try you out with their guild, you try the guild out for your available times and guild needs. This way if it doesnt seem like a guild you'd like to stay in after a few weeks or however long you give yourself, you can usually talk to the guild leader and leave the guild no hard feelings. Not all guilds fit everyone's personality. I know that I've been in a few guilds in either this game or others that didn't fit well with what I wanted out of the game.. Bottom line is, you pay to have fun, if the guild is a good fit that will happen easily.
