So, i think i screwed up royally. I am back for like two weeks after a loooong break from DDO (12 was the cap last time i played), and i decided to get rid of a bunch of toons and bring my old mains over to a new server that i was playing on with some buddies. With this in mind i set about mailing all the cool gear from my "to be deleted" toons to my mains. Unfortunately, when sending the mail, i did not realise that i must include the "-Riedra" suffix for it to reach the intended recipients (that both originated on Riedra). Also, unfortunately, I have deleted the posting toons before realising the mistake that I have made.
Do I have any recourse for recovering those items that I sent? If not, then that sucks.

The '-Riedra' suffix was appended to your character names after the server merge. Because first names must be unique, to settle this issue, the toon from whatever original servers had the name the longest got to keep it, all others had '-original-server-name' appended to it.
So if you're toon name on server Y was X, and I, on server Z had a toon named X, but was created one week after yours, when servers merged, your toon stayed X, and mine became X-Z.
Your best bet is to try and track down the person who has your name without the '-Riedra' and explain the situation, and see if he can forward the items.

Unfortunately think they are probably gone for good. May want to file a in game ticket, but I do not believe they will help you with that issue unfortunately.
The one thing you might consider doing, is go to your servers forums and mention this same issue. I find that the community is very generous in regards to helping with money/items, especially in a situation like yours. I understand some may not like handouts, but your situation is just a unfortunate circumstance. (I don't remember but I think Khyber is your new server?).

Ok, so does anybody know some characters by the name of Day or Gin (without the Riedra suffix) on Kyber? If so, I would like to talk with them!

Try sending them in game mail. I would have to say, it's likely that those names are taken.

Yeah, Kyhber is my new server, and I appreciate the thought, but I am not really one for charity when i am to blame. It was my mistake, and there is nothing lost that i cannot live without, but it just sucks to lose all those cool scimitars you spent ages collecting for that fighter, those dwarven axes, nice two-handers, that funky item that you were gonna build a character around, those +4 stat items, that stone of good luck. There is nothings crazy about it, it just sucks.
In -game ticket gave me no love. GM basically confirmed all that I am reading here.

Yes, you can mail things to any existing character, active or not. The mail would get returned in about 20 days if they weren't opened, but since the characters that mailed them were deleted, there's nowhere for them to return to.
I once sent a few items to the wrong name on Ghallanda. Sent the guy a nice mail asking if he could send them back and he did within 48 hours. Worth a try I'd say.

... that Stone of Good Luck.
Well, on a positive note, if you run the Delera's chain, one of the new end rewards is a trinket that gives you luck AND 5% XP if you have it equipped when a quest completes. It's called the Voice of the Master and the luck portion negates the need for the Stone you had.
Hope that helps. ;)

If no one has them, and the computer database is not too evil, it might allow you to re-create the same characters that mailed the item on the same account and then you wait 20 days and see if it comes back.
Or, as others pointed out, ask Gin and Day to send them back.
The problem is, if Gin and Day do exist, but are not being played, then the mailer will auto return the gear to the originating toon. If originating toon is goon, then the mail and gear is gone.

Nope dont work, it works with a date created and date deleted and name of toon.
I tried something similiar when the cap was about 12 or so. I had alot of crossbows that I collected and no longer wanted and I was rerolling the toon that had them in his inventory and bank. I put them up for auction and then I deleted the toon and then a few seconds later recreated a toon with the same name.
needless to say I never got plat from selling anything on the AH and I remember still seeing the crossbows with bids on the AH after I rerolled the toon.

Once you get a guy to 16, 95% of that loot will get replaced within a month anyway.
There are people like me who pack rat mediocre twink gear and have to clean out the mules from time to time. They would be happy to give you a few items just to make room on the mule.

make new character using the same name, and it will be returned to that new character, I believe.

If you haven't deleted the alts yet, wait a few weeks. You may get lucky and the person with the names you sent to may not be active... After a few weeks the mail is returned to the sender.

The problem is he deleted the sender. I agree with the others in two ways:
create new characters with the same names as the deleted senders (if possible)
if your chars are level 12, most of your stuff is now dirt-cheap at auction

Have you tried emailing that person about your items?

I would also add the names to your friends list to see if and when they log on

Regardless of if the items come back or not you can not create a character with the ~'server' suffix at the end of the name.

Thanks for the ideas gang. I have resigned myself to the gear being lost, I'm not overjoyed by it, but I am not in such a bad mood either. I still have a ways before I hit cap, so i guess most of that gear will gradually be replaced anyways (as others have pointed out).
And as for mailing gear...lesson learned!
Cheers
