solo'd the reaver on elite today. First time trying it on elite, and pretty fun. 13 minute completion (part of that was me waiting for a final charge before killing him :) ).

Build is a 14/2 wizard/rogue, evasion helps a lot with the lightning strikes.

Anyway, I know lots of people have done this before, but I wanted to share. :)

No pots necessary. Here's essentially what I did:

1) Go in and cast the following buffs:
Resist acid/cold/electricity, GH, Blur, Jump, shield, Expedious Retreat, Stoneskin, displace, haste. (I may be missing one or two, but those are the big ones, especially the last three :-) )

2) Hit the reaver with all the standard debuffs
Curse, ray, waves, crushing dispair, etc. Whatever I've got on my debuff bar.

3) Cast a firewall on the reaver and wait until I have a charge

4) Kite the reaver for awhile while I recharge to avoid getting overcharged. Once I have full mana, go back into stand there and firewall mode unless there are ellies

5) Run to cubby if ellies spawn so that I can kill them quickly. This is the most dangerous part. Running out of a ellie-immunity at the wrong time can suck. Cast acid fog and firewalls, kill the ellies as fast as possible.

6) If ellies are all dead, go back to step 3 until all orbs are lit

7) Fly and pull lever

8) Come back and take reaver down to almost no health

9) Get a final charge

10) Kill the reaver. You should now have approx 2:45 - 3:00 minutes of ellie immunity, so get cracking on the puzzle real quick like. Drop firewalls and acid fogs and solve it as fast as you can

11) Get your loot.

12) Repeat in 3 days/ :)

Does this even block anything when he hits you?

Not sure what you're asking. He doesnt'a ctually swing the sword all that often. When he does, there is a 50% chance he will miss due to displacement. Assuming he actually connects, I just cast a quickened reconstruct.

I have never been killed during the "stand and block" portion when there are no ellies present. He just doesn't swing fast enough for it to be an issue.

What i am saying is, is stoneskin really a nessicary buff for this raid? When ever I tank him on my barb with stone skin i never see stoneskin take any of his damage away.

No, it's not strictly necessary. In the screenshot it looks like I've got 50 points left on stoneskin, and I'm not sure that I ever re-applied it.

Given the low cost of stoneskin materials though, I generally just cast it. Same with jump. It's not necessary, but I cast it on the off chance I will need it. I could replace it with tumble, but it's rare that I take significant damage from hitting the ceiling/floor.

Thanks for the reminder and gratz on the win.

I built my 3rd wizard as a wfg'ed and originally had him solo his first 20 reavers just cuz... mostly to learn how to play him and keep him alive.

I stopped this behavior once they increased the air elemental saves (and because you don't get any shared loot solo'ing)... but seeing this post reminded me that saves don't matter when you solo since you're just damaging them down. So I solo'ed it again this morning.

Got flung in the center twice... thought I was dead the second time as he reversed gravity... but he had also just given me fly. *WIN*

Congrats! Another option when the elies spawn is to just run laps around the room, casting fire wall as you go. Occasionally, the Reaver will get tired, and stop chasing you to catch his breath. This is a great time to let the elies catch up, and let them cook in a crit fire wall.

Of course, the Reaver isn't getting any younger, and you may have to go remind him that you haven't left yet.

What's really fun is when you take the Reaver down to a sliver, and forget to remove your Glacial Bracerrs while waiting to get a fresh charge :)

Yah, I started off with the laps method, but found that it was taking too long for my tastes. :)

These days I just drag them to the cubby and lay down lots o' death. Most of the time I retain my charge and it's no an issue. Sometimes my charge gets stripped, but they usually don't throw me out of the cubby when that happens, and I get a new charge fairly quickly.

The run around in circle method is definitely less risky though.

The other thing that I have found is that on the puzzle ellies only spawn for white/black orbs. So if you're solving by hand you can use this to your advantage to get less spawns.

For example: let's say your first guess is BB-- (where "-" is a blank entry) and you get two blacks. Then for your second guess you do GG-- and get nothing.

You can leave the first two slots as green now until you know what the last two orbs are, and then set the first two back to BB. This will save you from spawning a ton of ellies.

the reaver has an adamantine weapon and will ignore stoneskin, but ss will help against melee from the elementals, and they don't do that much damage, so its a considerable help if they manage to hit you.
