I'm just gonna jump right into this...

1. Midway Games is going bankrupt. They are the co-publishers of LoTO, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midway_Games
2. They are having an auction tomorrow to auction off there stuff
3. They are being bought by Warner Bros Interactive entertainment http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warner_Bros._Interactive_Entertainment

Along with the recent changes in management a Turbine (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=184100) and Atari (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=183916) I feel that the Publisher that Turbine would go with, if Atari wasn't in the picture anymore, would have to be Warner Bros Interactive entertainment as they have bought out Midway games. Its a sketchy scenario but how realistic is it?

I'd imagine that any of Midway-Atari's contracts would potentially continue to be served from Warner Interactive. Especially since Turbine and Warner already have business dealings, I wouldn't expect too much to change from the auction. Just one less logo on the Lotro box.

LOTRO switched to Warners bros months ago with the expansion

Atari is now a completely subsidiary of infogrammes, so they woudl have to tackle infogrammes

I'm just still bitter about the collapse of Black Isle. I'm hoping that Obsidian will bring that considering that most of the employees went there after the fall.:D

Its a battle of acquiring IP's. Warner Bros. put in a bid to Midway games for $33 million to acquire all of its assets which include all of its Ip's (mortal combat, joust, spy hunter etc.) With the latest news of cross-platform gaming being the next big thing the companies in the gaming world are trying to acquire as many IP's as possible to have the largest IP libraries from which to build new games.Large IP libraries mean larger market exposure and profit due to non licensing expenses to another company.Just like Atari (who has a very extensive IP library) bought out Cryptic Studios to do work on their existing IP's and a bonus of up to $20 million to the studio if Champions online and Star trek online exceed an undisclosed profit target.
