I have a human barb lvl 5 with TWF trying to lvl to 6 with ITWF feat. I started with 15 DEX. Took human adaptability +1 dex enhancement and a +1 dex tome brining me to 17. ITWF is not one of my available feats. I thought enhancements counted toward ability requirements, no?

I don't think stat enhancements go towards "base" stats. I think you will need to eat a +2 tome or wait until level 8 to raise your base dex to 17.
I could be wrong though...

Unfortunately, no. Feats that have ability requirements use the BASE ability score. That includes only tomes and level-up points. You will need a +2 tome.

I dont think you can get it until 9...and GTWF at 15. I'll dbl check and get back unless someone knows for sure.

The enhancement does not count on BASE stat + tome + level ups.

Wow thx for all the immediate replies, cheers to the DDO community. I will just have to wait until lvl 9 it seems. Must...keep...lvling before they take away my Crit Rage enhancements....
Thx guys

You're incorrect. ITWF requires BAB 6, 17 dex(starting + tomes + levelups) and TWF.

In your specific situation, you can get ITWF at 6 and GTWF at 12 (possibly through a respec if you get your Dex increase after these levels, either through a tome or spending a level up stat point).
It's probably your best plan, because you want Improved Crit at L9.

Wasting a lvl up point in dex is absolutley NOT a "best plan"
Please do yourself a favor and instead just wait until you hit 1750 favor for the +2 dex tome of hope you aquire one in a high lvl quest or raid.. Then respec. All points belong in strength on a Barbarian.

Would I be able to retroactively respec that way? Can you swap for a feat that you currently meet the requirements for but didn't when you took the feat your changing? I would like to keep them all in STR but I think I may have to make my decision by lvl 8 (next lvl).

unless you spalsh 6 ranger, then you can get them with lower base dex. (TWF,ITWF)

I definitely agree with Shade.
I would switch to 2HF for now until you either hit 1750 or get a +2 dex tome. Give you time to slowly build up weapons for 2wf, can concentrate on getting level 10+ ones. (don't know your guild/money status but friends or AH some might have one for you)
Once you get your dex tome, use dragon shards to fix your feats.
Never stop bumping strength.

Another thing u may want to take note of when making a build is if it has a BAB pre-req....example ITHF which is BAB +6......u will not be able to take it until after level 6, as the BAB on melee type even being +6 at level six does not actually apply until AFTER u level.
I learned this the hard way when making my qstaff using monk and was all happy about getting ITHF at level 6 only to find out that I was going to have to wait until level 9.
Correct me if I am wrong but does this only apply to monks because of thier centered bonus to BAB or is it true for all classes?

Monks are 3/4 BAB classes. A barbarian, ranger, paladin or fighter can indeed take ITHF at level 6 with no problems, at all. But a monk or bard needs to wait until level 9. Monks SEEM to be full BAB because of the unfortunate implementation of flurry of blows when centered, but this is only a bonus similar to divine power or madstone boots: It has no bearing on feat pre-reqs.

I agree, I meant to say that it was best to take ITWF as the L6 feat (through respec) rather than as a later feat.
It's of course best to get a +2 tome than spend a level up point on Dex, but for some people a +2 Dex tome is not easy to obtain (even through 1750 favor), and if you don't care about having the most optimized build possible, it won't be a big deal to lose 1 Str point.
Would I be able to retroactively respec that way? Can you swap for a feat that you currently meet the requirements for but didn't when you took the feat your changing?
Usually you can't, but it is possible for stat requirements, because the game does not remember when you used tomes and what stats you increased through leveling up.

Thanks for the info, since I solo 95% of the time, I am not one who gets +2 tomes frequently and it would be tough for me to get 1750. I am currently at lvl 8, I think I will end up raising my Dex at lvl 12. At that time I'll grab ITWF.
I know everyone wants mod 9 to come out but I really want to make it to lvl 14 first! :D The idea of dual weilding picks with 17-20 *4 crits would be so cool. Thanks for all the advice!
