From demoniac: With the idea of spell combo's stolen from "DragonAge"

FAQ 5.03
"Dragon Age: Origins will introduce the concept of “spell combos,” which is where you can chain together different spells to create a unique effect. For example, if you were to cast a Grease spell on a target to slow them down, followed by a Fireball, you could create a special burning effect with some devastating results"
Allow the grease spell to be ignited (like the fire barrels) dealing meager fire damage but preventing the team from tripping because of grease in the heat of battle.
Told you it was simple
If you really want to give them love you can lower the "grease" attack ratio and give them sparks instead.
That means mithril and adamantite defenders have built in combo's, grease, ignite it... rinse repeat.
You could also automatically give all friendlies a big saving throw bonus vs the grease and reduce the "slip" effect of friendly grease. (although the slip effect is probably the more fun part).
The best solution is to add a pet control system like WOW does (so they're like a hireling) .. where you can turn on and off the automatic attacks. so the defender would only grease when you tell it to.. (and the timer has gone down)
