Hi All,
How exactly does TWF help a monk? Are their fists considered weapons?
I am currently building a monk and I am trying to decide whether to stay pure or build the Tempest / monk mutt breed.
Does Tempest help when you are using unarmed?
Any input for pure and tempest monks is greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure if tempest stacks, but twf does stack with your fists, I'd reccomend staying pure either way for teh final air, or fire stance, and dr 10 as well as the capstone.

The tempest speed bonus only works when you are wielding weapons and does not work unarmed. With all of the twf feats available to monks (up to greater) you will get 10 attacks with fists. Only Rangers (with Tempest III) are able to get more attacks from their 'superior two weapon' fighting pseudo-feat.
Fists are approximately 10% faster than holding two weapons (90 strikes rather than 83), and you get full STR bonus to your offhand attack rather than 1/2 bonus for all other twf.
In addition, by using fists you will be able to gain full advantage of the mysterious mod9 rings (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?&postid=2119845#post2119845) that will give unarmed monks additional DPS.
I use fists on my monk for everything in game except for when I'm doing hard/elite Shroud (because of the increased DR), vorpals, and cursespewing.

Technically speaking the Monk is the weapon when unarmed (IE using Handwraps). While using Handwraps you can gain benefits from TWF, ITWF and GTWF. Other TWF feats do not apply while unarmed.

Suppose it depends on what your goal is. If you're going for an Air Stance Monk stay pure. The attack speed boost from Grandmaster should have you attacking at least as fast as a Tempest Monk whether armed or unarmed.
If you want to dual wield Kama's while in another stance Tempest may be the route to go...
If you want max base damage stay pure...Unarmed base damage increases with additional Monk levels, so you'll loose base DPS if you splash.

In Mod 8 it's bugged and you at least gain the AC boost. They have a confirmed bug fix once Mod 9 goes live so all benefits will be lost.
